a few scores in the past issues of EDGE have been just plain wrong for me. Gears of War 2 and FarCry 2 spring to my mind. and FarCry 2 i bought particulary because the Edgge review encouraged me to do. well, what does this teach me?

I think its all down to personnel opinons for me theres no way mirrors edge was a 5, i love that game, and i rented need for speed undercover and there no way that a 3 either, i like it so what edge say dosent really matter to me, and sonic unleased cannot be a 6 never from what ive played so again its all about individual opinion.

It just seems Edge has it's own views and these don't fit with many of us here at NTSC-uk.

What do we represent here? Some of us are getting older and don't have the time to invest in deeper games & consequently our tastes are mellowing and we accept dumbed down games in order to feel good about whoring some points and seeing the end credits again.

Edge has a very important place in Videogames journalism. It creates debate and forces us to look at our own viewpoints and try to understand theirs.

For me it's clear. I am indeed older and I do indeed require more "Popcorn" enertainment for the few hours I have when the kids are finally sleeping. Something like Mario Galaxy, GRAW2 coop, Left for Dead coop or Dead Space Single Player. These games have provided me with top class entertainment.

Some of these games were so good that Edge also rated them highly. Others did not fare so well.

The fact that my tastes differ from Edge is not an issue. They are reviewing from a different perspective. They are driving the industry forwards, trying to push developers to innovate, encouraging diversity and quality in an industry that would pump our remakes and sequels for the next 10 years if it was allowed.

For everyone who has a different view about a game fine. (I rarely agree with the Edge myself)

But not supporting them is self destructive, as what they stand for & what they do is very healthy for the industry and the chances of more LBP's or Mirrors Edges's being developed supported and published.

Instead of being up and arms about their reviews, try instead to read them several times over and get a picture for what the reviewer was trying to say, and what would have made the game better.

Sorry if this post was a ramble.

          They gave Mirror's Edge a 5

yeah but they bigged it up and did a very good encouraging job thru the development phase, its not Edge's fault that the game is a pox ridden turkey and for most punters as much fun as a bad bout of man-flu.

I don't 'trust' their reviews but I don't really trust any single arbiter of scores on art like games, music, films etc. You don't see art critics rate the new show at the Tate Modern.

The only time you can feel aggrived at reviews I feel is when the writer clearly hasn't played the thing or has missed the point of something totally. As soon as it gets subjective as in 'I don't like Mirrors Edge, its rubbish, poorly designed, no fun to play po-faced drivel and I want my ?40 back' the door is open for disagreement.

They've had no credibility since they only gave MGS4 an 8....

Edge supported DICE really well in the development phase.

Sounds like the EDGE defense force (you) are pissed off. I was just trying to make sense of the 7, which IS a good score, and below reviews.

I bought PoP, think it's better than 5. Chillout mate.

Fair enough. Still doesn't change the fact that EDGE are up their own "we are so great" arses though

It's actually a really good game, flawed but really good nonetheless. I can see why some people would get fed up with it though.

Yeah, I probably should have written something like: "OMG no way is PoP a 5!!! Edge has their heads up their own arses!! I'm cancelling my subscription today, really I will do it!!!", instead of saying my own opinion...

Same thing every month, what a joke.

It says on rllmuk that there's a Perfect Dark article. Can someone who has read this month's Edge say which game that refers to (N64, 360 or GBA, or all of them)? Thanks.

and thus this is the problem - you could read this either way depending on your stance!

I'm not a big Edge fan, but 8 is about right for me - the first 2 chapters are excellent, but the rest is average stuff with horrible cutscenes and commentary - with the online mode being horribly outdated.

It's definitely a must see experience, but the game is inconsistant and , frankly, embarrasing at times. It's the sort of game you would definitely switch off in the later sections if non-gamers were in the room....

but i know other people will think 8 is a travesty and this is really a 10/10 game.

                            *shrug*

Had a quick look last night, it's a Time Extend on the N64 original.

EDGE seem to be really pissed off at someone from Ubisoft it seems.

Their horrible review last year of Assassins Creed (which seemed to be directed at a female lead developer), and now this one of PoP!!
