That's not necessarily true. The profit they get depends on how much they sell to the retailers for, not the RRP, and that's something that's likely to be negotiated rather than being fixed. Artificial scarcity, where retailers are desperately trying to get hold of every unit they can, could well drive that price up. It might work out better for Nintendo to sell less units but get a higher cut of the retail price on each one.

I managed to stroll in to game 2 days before Christmas and pick up a copy of this.

It was £30 and it was Oxford St but there does seem to be stock around. Glad I did too as it has been a hit with all the family! This is probably common knowledge but what other games have Level 5 made?

        Dragon Quest VIII/IX
        Inazuma Eleven
        Jeanne d'Arc
Rogue Galaxy (don't hold that against them)

Ah. I knew I recognised the name but couldn't place it. Forgot about the involvement with DQ - Christmas stupidity ftl...

Nope, not at all. Gave it 15 hours or so but I just disliked it. I can't remember why, now, unless I said in the FP thread at the time. There are too many far better RPGs to spend time with!

Is there any word on what's happening with this in the UK now? Been out of stock for quite a while and I sold my US copy a couple of months ago in expectation of getting the UK one.

Is there any chance of further copies being made available?

More importantly. Where the hell are the sequels?!?

This game has sold hugely in every region, I know it's tricky to localise some of the puzzles but given the sales, you'd think they'd put a decent sized team on it.

As far as i know the sequals are not confirmed for an English translation, which is odd since this is becoming one of the biggest third party hits on the DS.

If what I've been told is corect the first sequel will be out for Easter to cash in on that buying period.

Hope so as the first one is fantastic fun!

Isn't it technically 2nd party as Nintendo are publishing it? I always get confused by the "2nd party" term.

Yeah, I'm a bit gutted we've only had one out of three Layton games...!! Especially considering it's one of the best titles available!

2nd party is a company not owned but has very close ties and usually an exclusivity deal. Rare during the N64 days is a prime example of one.

Level-5 is third party as they're producing for PS3, PSP and Nintendo consoles and have no major ties to either company

Nintendo (America and Europe) has released a list of stuff they're publishing in 2009, and there's no mention of Layton for either.
