Xbox 360 - Old dash or New Dash?

Personally I thought the new dash was great for about 5 mins, until I realised it's horribly broken. You can only "see" in one direction. To be effective, the selected item on the main list needs to be centered with the other options above and below it viewable. I have similar issues with the overlap on the shiny new graphics obscuring what's coming. Give me a text list option too please.

If they'd really wanted to make it useful, they would have had a custom line instead of that welcome note. You would have been able to put your regularly used bits in the slots. Or it would just do it for you. E.g. new arrivals in game demos.

    Totally useless.

Full agreement from me. Downloading demos and content used to be straightforward. Now it's a drawn out experience that severly tests my patience. The functionality of the old dash has been replaced by what I can only describe as "wank".

The fact that 2 months on I still struggle to get around the thing and do things that were second nature on the old dash puts me firmly in the "Old dash worked fine camp".

Still not impressed with all the adverts either.

The old dashboard wins for me. Although this new dashboard looks slick and everything, it lacks functionality (especially over the last month or so). Once you get over its looks after a couple of weeks or so, it's MEH!

They are both pretty useless to be fair.

The original dash was usable but hung and froze to a ridiculous degree (maybe it was just my machine) and the new one, despite looking flash and having options written in a larger font, is almost unfathomable to navigate!

The only thing I really like is the installation of games to the HDD to make the machine quieter but the machine shouldn't be that noisy in the first place though I feel that's a different poll entirely!

In terms of console UI this gen Sony have got it (finally, something if you're to believe the haters) right. The XMB is so easy to use and has the bonus of being instantly familiar to anybody who owns one of their many television sets etc...and the PSP!

I do like the Wii Channels but it would be nice if they were a little smaller so you could get more on screen at one time. Being able to use them from the SD card would be a boon too.

They both have their strong points but i prefer the new one slightly more. Took a while to get used to it but now I have it takes little more than 30 seconds to check if there are any new demos, videos, Arcade games or RB/GH content to download. the A-Z lists for everything mean its much easier to find something when you know what you're looking for, the old dash was a mess when browsing old content. I really like the look of it all too, especially the premium themes. My only real complaints are than a) it could do with a little streamlining, there seems to be mutliple menus to do the same job, b) it can run a bit slow at times. Sometimes I'll click on say a new GH pack for some details and it'll take 20 secs to load the next page, hopefully this will get better.

Much prefer the new guide too. I love being able to simply press X on someone to invite/join them, something I have personally been wishing of for a long time. Launching Live Arcade games is much easier. Loving the 'Party' system too. Not only is it nice to talk to a group of friends while playing a single player game it's also nice to be able to play online together without having to listen to random idiots. Just wish I could change the colour of the guide still, I miss it being white.

My biggest gripe is all of the themes I paid for originally are now virtually useless. Thanks Microsoft!

I don't hate the new dash, generally I've found it to be pretty similar to the old one once you get used to it, but it takes aaaages for something to load up when I'm trying to download a demo or a video from a particular title.

I would happily take the old dash with the install and party feature.

If they could mash the two together somehow and make it work, I'd be a happy bunny.

I like the new one but I find everything takes so long to load. Maybe it is just my shonky connection though

I went off the old dash after using the Wii pointer - it made the Xbox system seem archaic. However, after couple of weeks of the new dash I would be happy to have it back. The new one is bloated and slow - too many images!

That being said, it doe seem to be a bit faster recently, although that might be to do with the sudden and unannounced increase in bandwidth I've started receiving from my ISP. :/

Prefer the new dashboard. Old one was pretty lifeless, clunky and the design was ruined by the very prominent advertisements.

Thats not to say the new one is perfect. At the moment to get the most out of the NXE you need to use the dashboard and the guide because some of the features seem to be exclusive to either one. So I'd like a patch to make it so that you can access all of the features from the dashboard.

                          Looks:
                          Old

The themes suck on the New dash. The old dash even without themes looked more classy to me.

                          Functionality:
                          Old

Finding stuff on the new Dash is a pain and an age of scrolling in different directions. I knew where everything was on the old dash and not just from getting used to it.

                          Features:
                          New

HDD install for games, expanded in-game mini-guide (although most things still require you to quit the game to access which misses the point), deleting 0g gamerscore games easily, Party system

I prefer the old one. I managed to get my head around the new one when I started to think of it as a very bloated XMB turned on its side but for once I just wish that Microsoft would concede and produce something simple, functional and intuitive. (Insert Vista joke here.) I hope there's an XMB facsimile on the 720 or whatever it ends up being.

Apart from the odd way things are displayed on the actual new dashboard, as other have said its not user friendly I really enjoy the new dashboard. Installing games to the HDD is a massive improvement. The return of multiple chats for friends and that the text entry doesn't lag is a bonus. Also lots of user and console related setting are now more accessible if you use the guide version of the Dash.

I wouldn't go back the old dash is clunky and looks like arse.
