    Giving up gaming

Recently I've had a few things change in my life and I've started to feel as if I spend too much time playing games.
Basically I'm debating to sell my 360 and all it's games to make room for other things in my life. Don't get me wrong, this isn't one of those 'I hate games and there is nothing I like anymore' threads, I just wonder if there are better things to do with my spare time.

I feel like the games take priority over lots of other things I enjoy doing and as a result I never do them. The simple answer would be not to play them as much, but I find that really difficult, when I'm bored I just play a game and it's doing nothing but pass the time.

Anybody ever felt this way or had similar thoughts?

No. Now get that joypad picked up and kill some aliens/nazis/marines/terrorists.

Of course, we all feel like that from time to time, and it's normal, but the most important thing to remember, no matter what, whatever happens, if you have a copy of cod4, you should sell it to me.

There are a lot of these threads so you're not the only one; I remember making one years back. I did actually sell most of my collection, and it made quite a difference. I buy games less compulsively, play them less often, but tend to enjoy them more when I do.

Start off lightly i would Adam. Say you'll only play after 10pm, never before, see how you get on with that.

Thats what i do purely because i don't have the time though. Baby, wife, blah blah all that.

You'll probably find you'll appreciate the 2 hrs or so a night a lot more too.

back to subject, boris i felt like that a while ago, think it was when my second xbox packed in..I was on the brink of packing it all in thinking what a waste of money/time,but you know what am glad i didn't.

Take some time out and do other things, then take it from there..

Is this all because I've just passed your gamerscore?

In all seriousness, I've often wondered how much more productive I'd be if I didn't spend my spare time sitting on my arse with nothing but an arbitrary number to show for it.

If you're feeling like that then the best bet would be to try and have a break and pursue something different. You don't have to stop gaming altogether but break it up with something new.

just done something similar my self had wii, 360 and ps3. sold the 360 and all the games (had around 45 games) same with the wii and kept the ps3 for blur ray and cod4 every now and again, picked up a ps2 for a few older games ill play but thats as far as ill go i think, but i have downsized drastically and feel much better for it.

i used to just come in from work and go straight on the xbox when other things needed doing and it just all piled up and never got done. i used to neglect my instruments (guitar and bass) and i suffered for it, im in a new band now and its hard work so i need to practice and put the time in or else im letting everyone else down so that was a big motivation for me.

Now i have more time to do the things that need doing and i play my instruments more and dont spend as much time playing games, i do like games just i think its become more of a casual hooby for me now rather than a full blown gamer.

you could try just keeping one system and the odd game see if that helps?

Had this feeling many times Boris, my advise would be to have a clear out and keep yourself some core consoles / games for when you feel like it. If you dump the lot to say you`ll find a big entertainment gap and before you no it you`ll be a richard and judy sofa spud with an arse as big as hers.

As others have said, it's not an uncommon thing. There are lots of ways that people can spend their spare time, and certainly I have trouble sticking to one or t'other hobby.

Right now, I tell myself that if I ever sold my collection, it wouldn't be coming back - it would just be too much work. I also kid myself that it will be worth something in an antique sense, and that my kids will enjoy it one day.

Yeah right. Like I ever cared about my dad's pastimes during my teens etc (sorry dad). I'd better stop posting now and go back to ignoring the issue.

                        Can I have your stuff?

Seriously though, it just sounds like you need to prioritise a bit better. No need to completely stop doing something you enjoy. Unless you learn how to manage your time, something else will come along and fill the gap left by gaming in your life. I guarantee it.

I wouldn't worry, I hardly play any games outside of Pro evolution and the odd PS3 downloadable demo, and in most of those I think wtf these controls are too complex and turn it off after 5 minutes.

I'm hoping maybe that Flower game will use no buttons, then maybe i could cope.

Try playing WoW like I did.

It's not that realising you spend too much time on games (or a game) that makes you want to quit, it's the fact that when you escape Azeroth everything else is dog turd in comparison.

Even when you are dead into Warcraft, you always look at your console games and question why you ever wasted time there to begin with.

Right now I'm more concerned with becoming a muscleman, I still have time to finally play Halo 3 properly and cane through Burnout Paradise in between however, especially on my rest days (sat + sun).

I even go and see my nan on Sundays which I never did before MMOs.

Worst advice ever surely. I can't see the solution of playing games got the sake of it to play a game like Warcraft, which is in my eyes, the epitome of pointlessness.
