I wasn't aware that dissenting opinions were illegal on internet forums. Also, you'll forgive me if I find the idea of grown men drooling over naked polygonal women like a bunch of sexually frustrated, mastrubation-frenzied 14 year old boys who've never seen real women before somewhat laughable.

Still, this is something you obviously feel passionately about, so why not continue to discuss your lovely patch rationally instead of trying police my posts or put words in my mouth? Just a suggestion...
That is totally correct, you didnt say you werent interested in the topic, in fact, all we got from you was one condescending line of text, intended, I imagine, to spark a reaction. Just for the record, you didnt give a dissenting *opinion* you made a blunt, unreasoned statement.

I think that most people on this forum can put across their points without resorting to "you are all sad arseholes" style posts.

Ironically, the total lack of respect, and, dare I say it, immaturity shown in your first post on the subject was quite a hoot considering you were basically questioning *our* maturity for installing, or being interested in, the patch in the first place.

Perhaps you should word your posts in a less combative manner in future, or at least attempt to back up your views with a reasoned argument? Just a suggestion

Indeed it is, but the implications ARE sad. Though this could be my apparently 'narrow mind' speaking...
      But it's still funny

I expressed an :pinion:: (that is, I thought the idea was 'sad'). Got it?

Indeed. For the record, I never attacked anybody in my first post so as an obvious attempt at a slur on my approach, your above comment is innappropriate.

WTF!? A 'total lack of respect'!? Towards what or whom exactly?

Anyway, allow me to repeat my point in simpler language for you:-

        I. Was. Not. Making. Personal. Attacks. Just. Expressing. My. Opinion.

If you've taken it personally, then the cap obviously fits...

And who is this 'our' you speak of anyway? As I recall, you're the only one getting worked up over this.

Perhaps you should word your posts in a less combative manner in future, or at least attempt to back up your views with a reasoned argument? Just a suggestion
Perhaps you should practice what you preach.

        Just a suggestion... ::Ahem::

its not worth getting myself in trouble with the mods over a ****ing patch here. Ill put it simply.

Ady - your first comment was blunt, and non descriptive, you didnt back up your statement with any particular reasoning. Perahps in future you could provide an actual opinion straight from the off rather than just saying "X is sad/****/etc" until someone takes issue with you.

Thats all I have to say on the matter, feel free to deconstruct this post as you see fit, but if you cannot see that I have a point about your initial post then it's hardly worth bothering really is it?

              Peace

You can't comment about this patch being seen as 'sad' without relating it to other things in society, IMO. It could equally be argued that kids playing with toy guns is 'sad', but will it ever be looked down upon to the extent that this will? No, of course not, because while toy guns may glorify violence, that's okay as long as they're not sexual in nature.

We live in a society that still regards sexuality as taboo, and violence as something which is accepted and even enjoyed, families can sit through an entire Schwartzenegger epic without flinching but the instant a sex scene comes on there's a tremendous awkwardness amongst them. Of course DOA:XVB or this new patch aren't going to be taken seriously, just take a look at the climate in which they were created - erotica in videogames has remained cheap and seedy as that's still the way we see it in life, but the fact is people have been indulging in such fantasy escapism since the beginning of humankind - chalk drawings on a cave wall become risque paintings on an oil canvas become sexual films become sexual video games, it's a natural progression and it baffles me why some people can't understand that.

                  As you wish.

Yes, I think the patch thing is sad. Inevitable, obvious, somewhat amusing and almost gagging to be done but sad nonetheless.

Why? It's completely at odds with gaming's current aspirations of being considered a 'mature' medium or something on par with cinema. Of course, sexual themes and playful nudity are nothing new in gaming (and certainly not cinema), but as an artform that wants to be taken seriously, DOAXB's nude patch essentially sets those aspirations back a good decade, IMO.

One of the stereotypes levelled at gaming from non gamers its over-reliance on violence and the adolescent objectification of women. This game (even without the patch), plays right up to the latter stereotype with an almost obnoxious, cynical alacrity and I think it stinks.

Games like this will cause our hobby to forever be regarded as a geeky boy's only club. And I find that sad because the technological and entertianment potential of gaming is as such, that the hobby doesn't deserve such a crude, grating disservice.

I concede I should've made this clear from the off, but I didn't think I needed to explain why a patch for seeing detailed 'nekkid chixxx!!!' was sad.

                    Excellent!

Glad we pursued this now, cause that is a good enough arguement for me

One thing though. I actually agree with what you say about the perception of our little hobby being potentially degraded, and the parallel with the movie industry, the only argument that I have with that is that I imagine the ratio of "games released" to "games released that try and make a profit due to its sexual theming" is nowhere near the ratio of hollywood films to porn. (although I am guessing - no hard numbers!)

I guess what I mean is that, in a way you are right, peoples perception of gaming could be "just a way for immature people to see tits" or someother similar opinion. But the cinema has its own version of the DOAXBV patch; Porn!
And people dont say "all movies are degrading". So maybe its not gamers (or gamemakers/mod/patchmakers) who are at fault for catering to different peoples tastes and whims, but the outsiders who are too quick to judge something about which they know very little.

                    Cheers

                    Sark

I guess no pun was intended either?

                      'Hard numbers' indeed...

Very true, however the aforementioned stereotypes have always plagued gaming, whereas they didn't always plague cinema (as far as I'm aware, anyway). As such, I think game makers need to take more responsibility towards destroying those stereotypes and making the hobby more accessible to a wider audience (that includes women).
