Whats point of Trophys

I dont use my ps3 much but i realised trophys are being added and was also added via a system update.

What exactly are these for?

I understand the basics.. its ala Achivments to the 360....

What i dont understand is Achivements on 360 I prefer doing as everyone can view whos played me, friends etc..

On PS3.. no one can view them.... well maybe friends can if I add any?!?!?


Just feels pointless with trophys or I do not find myself trying to do any.. like I do on my 360.. Feels more meaning on 360?!?!?1

I should probably give a more helpful reply in case you weren'T just trolling. Anybody who has played with you in an online game can view your trophies, as can anyone who sends/receives a message to/from you, and yes.. anyone in your friend list. In the next update your trophy value will be made immediately viewable next to your avatar on the friend list.

By the way they have been around for almost a year now, they weren't recently added at all.

I'd add you but there seems little point in adding someone who rarely uses their PS3. If you want to just see what they look like, look in your player's recently met list and 'compare trophies' with someone. Unless you've never played any game online?

The point of trophies is to show people that you are very good at a particular game. Same as achievements.

Gamerscore is utterly pointless though. It just shows how much time you spend playing games / how long you've owned a 360. Doesn't illustrate how good you are.

Not sure I agree with that statement. I have 330g in Oblivion which doesn't illustrate the 58 hours I've put into it, similarly people have 1000g in Avatar (ok extreme example but you get the picture) which takes all of 5 minutes apparently. Also you could look at a list of achievements and see for example if someone has finished a game on a higher difficulty level which shows their ability.

I guess if you mean high gamerscore != great gamer, then you are correct. In most cases, I see high gamerscore = gamerscore whore. Just look at the leaderboard thread on this very forum

In general, there's absolutely no bloody point in them at all but I think they are the law now so all future games will have them.

Sony have mentioned that instead of them just being pointless crap, that you will be able to earn stuff to go on your Store account (I posted the interview some where). You may only get a little bit of cash for each trophy but I suppose if you end up getting a couple of quid or something for completing a game then I suppose it does seem like there is a reason for them.

A few games have really benefited from them as they've made me approach the game in a different way and I've learnt new things about playing the game. Unfortunately, those games are few and far between.

I know people who list the amount of trophies they have in the comments section of their profile so that people can see when they log in but I don't really see that as any different to having "SIZE 7 SHOES" as a comment.

For some people they seem to be important and I think that's fine but for me, they don't.

But this post does sound like trolling. Really its the same as 360. No different as in seeing other peoples.

And i will always give credit to MS for this. Biggest step forward in gaming IMO. They add so much replay value to a game.

well when it came to microsoft did i got them mixed up with the achievements and points

and i thought the more achievemen points i got i could then use those points to buy games on xbox live.....i thought thats a genius idea......was disapointed when that was not the case

Still would be cool if these achievements and trophys you could use them to get something....like downloadable extras or perhaps discounts on downloadable games
