It wasn't the handling model I had a problem with as much as that ****ing camera on the bikes, pardon my French. I'd still be playing the bloody game if it wasn't for that - I literally trufax honest-to-God cannot understand how it made it out of QA. Motion sickness from an FPS is one thing - that's obviously just individual perception, biological differences, even - but when I start a race on a bike and the camera is lurching left, and right, and left, and right, swaying thirty virtual feet through the air at speed with even the tiniest little change in direction, I don't get how anyone can not feel violently ill. Ridiculous.

Is it common for people to either love RPGs or hate them?

I can't get my head around any of them. As much as I would love to get into, say, Fallout 3, I find them all inaccessible, plodding and devoid of the need to use any actual gaming skill to play them.

Anyone else?

I pretty much agree with you on that. The only one exception to the rule was the original Knights of the Old Republic, which I loved to bits.

aye, like i said earlier, it's the time you need to invest is what gets me. saying that, i've played Mass Effect for over 30 hours in total and i'm about to begin my third run with the same character, but that's the thing - i have completed it twice in 30 hours rather than still on my first run. you are almost encouraged to play it at speed to see how the story unfolds.

the setting helps, i find sci-fi far more appealing than some medieval-style nonsense with swords and pointy hats.

I absolutely cannot stand them. That said, I really enjoyed Fallout 3. I don't think I would have touched it with a barge-pole if it was turn-based like the old ones though.

I've tried playing a couple of 'classic' RPG games and just couldn't get into them. The only one I took a liking to was Persona 3 which I found oddly compelling, though I didn't finish it because of the amount of time it would have taken. I really ought to finish it some day.

Heh, I do have an entry for this thread! That "one sequel for 2009" business just reminded me...

Duke Nukem 3D. Cannot get on with it/him at all. One of the most unappealing lead characters around - in fact, probably my least liked lead ever - fronting a mediocre FPS with gameplay and level design that's average at best, that looked ugly when it came out, where all the stupid little details remain just that and are not and never were worthy of all the oh-my-God-it's-just-like-real-life frothing they get every. Time. Anyone. Brings. This. Fecking. Game. Up. Oh, and produced by an arrogant tosser who stopped being relevant to the industry long before this game came out, let alone his bloody "will they, won't they, I don't care any more, not that I ever did" sequel.

And breathe. God, I hate that franchise with a passion, and can't understand why anyone wants to play through it cast as a repellent, unfunny knockoff of lifeless 50s sci-fi tropes when the competition flattens it in every conceivable way. Okay, carry on.

let the love-in commence, I second Motorstorm but problem is it didn't sell many so barely scrapes into a games everybody else loves list. Sequel is like the original, same wonky handling with added shiney surroundings like everything has a coat of Mr Sheen.

Wasn't it one of the first PS3 games to sell over 1 million copies?

I also didn't "get" Motorstorm. Halo I got... just didn't find anything special.

thing is there are games i cant See what the fuss is about.....(half life/zelda/metal gear etc) but i cannot Say i hate them....i think they are Good games....just i never clicked with them

I think that in a thread like this there's always an unclear distinction between someone saying they don't like a game, and someone saying that a game is rubbish. It always ends up upsetting people.

Possibly. The world would be a lot less entertaining if people took cuss lying down and said MEH to every criticism of their sacred cows. A fanboy rant is like a force of nature, unstoppable and a sight to behold.

I love playing football for real (am quite good too, *polishes nails*). I can't get my head around why I don't like playing footy videogames?

Realistic tennis games too. Again I play tennis in the summer......am not very good but I love it. Can't stand it on a console though?

I get upset everytime I look in the first play and see over 200 comments for yet another shoddy tedious Outrun, yet I posted a 1st play for CarneyVale Funtime, a 200pt award winning indie game on XBLA and had nearly 100 views with not a single comment !

Here's one: people seem to love Killer 7. While the technical artistry and it's attempt to do something different is to be admired, I just don't get it. Coherence is all important to me.
