Disgaea DS or PSP - which to buy?

Recently picked up a copy of Disgaea 3 from Gameplay, but haven't played either of the first 2 yet. I know the second game is exclusive to the PS2 for the moment, but what about the first game? Which portable version is best?

The PSP version is probably better, in all the major areas, but to be honest, the top-down map overview on the DS makes it impossible for me to want any other version, it's insanely helpful when you're chaining, and when perspective confuses you.

Are they both the same content wise? The DS version states it has extras, but are they in the PSP release too?

There're some additional characters in the DS version, but it lacks a lot of speech and is obviously not as nice looking or smooth as the PSP version.

Disgaea 2 came out on the PSP last week in Japan, by the way, so will presumably get a western release at some point.
