Yeah. MadWorld is fun, but it's not like it's singlehandedly moving the medium of videogames forwards or anything. Now, before anyone says it, obviously, not all games have to be revolutionary and there's nothing wrong with a game that's 'just' fun, but this does somewhat explain Edge's view on it.

Appropriately enough for this thread, this is a classic example of the score not telling the whole story, and why you need to read the words that go along with that number. It's almost like they read last month's Edge thread where leaving the scores out next time was mentioned and planned this.

What sort of features and articles are in this months issue? Time extended; Making of etc.

I think the "sloppy and rushed" part explains it pretty well.

Um, this isn't Edge's doing but NTSC-uk's own thing. The magazine has the scores normally. Not sure if you meant that, but...

Think I read that Viewtiful Joe was the Time Extend, and Leisure Suit Larry was the Making Of

That's not what I meant, no. But it's not worth explaining, so never mind.

I can't disagree with what was said about madworld.

I agree 100% with what Edge said about Madworld. It's a nice enough game, but **** guys, this is Atsushi Inaba we're talking about here. Just look at the guy:

Clearly, a man imbued with the powers of the God Hand! Those of us with the good taste to know what he's capable of can't help but be mildly disappointed by the gameplay.

Glad to see ntsc-uk is turning into a big brother like website.

If someone wants to open a scores thread, by all means do; I fully expected someone to do so, though no one has. But, I think it would interesting to run this for a week or so before adding scores into the mix.

The one thing I have noticed from this experiment is that the amount of replies has tailed off a bit.

Scores give everyone something to fixate about. Without them there is no 'quick response' you have to engage with the material properly and think of something a bit more heavy weight to say.

Leave the scores out and put them in spoilers after a week I say.

I noticed the lack of scores and cancelled my subscription, obviously!

Actually I tend not to participate in these threads anyway. I also don't care at all about reviews/opinions other than my own now, haven't for some time - unless they are at the very high end (For a game I'm not interested in) or the very low end (For a game I am) of the review/opinion spectrum.

I'm not sure I agree with your assessment. While scores can and do provoke a quick reaction, part of the problem here is that there is only a small paragraph taken out of context to talk about. A score is a conclusion. The paragraphs may or may not be but it's hard to tell. So, on their own, they offer less to talk about. There's no bottom line.

If leading to less discussion is the aim of this experiment, consider it a success.

Fair enough that. IMO it will encourage more people to read the full reviews though (even if it is just online) so the people who want to discuss it without:

                              "ZOMG - a 6 for game X?!??",

cropping up every other post, can do so.

I don't think it is neccesarily a good or bad thing - just interesting.

Viewtiful Joe Time Extend - I'll be picking that issue up then - wonder if they now realise that they ****ed up with their 8/10 review score...
