What do the triangles on nintendo game boxes mean?

Yes its an obscure random question, but I'm just wondering why all PAL games for current nintendo consoles have triangles on the spine?

At first i thought it was a 50hz thing as all my GC games are 60hz and feature green ones, besides Ikaruga which is 5ohz only and has a purple one.

But Henry Hatsworth on the DS has a yellow one while New Zealand story Revolution has a purple one....

I'm just wonderiung what they mean??

It is do with which languages are covered by the box / manual etc as that link says. I remember this coming up before and someone saying then that the staff in Nintendo's main European distribution centre in Germany use the colour codes to sort out which stuff goes where.

i thought it was something to do with where the game was released.

eg all my australian games have a brown/maroon triangle.
up untill recently i thought the only variation on this was uk games which have a green one.
however, i bought a copy of budokai and it had a pink triangle.
i later borrowed the twin snakes of a friend and it has a yellow triangle...

so im right confused. it annoys me though as i like to go for consistency and the pink triangle just doesnt fit with all the green ones.
