Despite the average score I am interested in this game and enjoyed reading the review.

Is this game accessible for people with no understanding of Japanese? Would a knowledge of Japanese come in useful for this game to navigate the menus, etc?

its pretty easy playing in japanese, until you venture into the online side of things, which is a bit more tricky.

its an ok game, but not as great as i hoped. the ps2 version is still easily the best.

As Fuddle says, the offline side of things is pretty easy to navigate after a little trial and error. The online options are an entirely different kettle of fish, although there is a decent translation guide here and I'm sure there was some discussion of it on the first play thread on this forum.

One thing to note is that if you intend to play online you must buy the Japanese version of the game, as the Asian one does not include this option.
