demos to full games

was just curious...anyone played a demo where the same level in the full game was actually different....worse or greatly improved

think they released a early demo of motorstorm 2 where the full game was actually alot better but i just dont recall any other games

The FEAR 1 demo had a specially created level that was good. Unfortunately it also used up some of the best scares in the game so they weren't as effective in the final game.

The FEAR Files X360 demo was also a mish-mash of different scenes from the Extraction Point expansion but I didn't really enjoy it. Fortunately the full game dispelled my fears (hah).

I've got an old demo from Playstation mag of Soul Reaver, that looks, plays and controls different to the final game (released months later, if I recall.)

Initially shocked after playing that demo for hours and hours, I soon came to realise that the changes were for the better. The final game plays more fluidly and looks less angular.

Yakuza demo was entirely in Japanese with subs, the full game was butchered...

the demo for lost planet (that came with the OXM disc) was the first level, but was actually different to the full game. same locations etc, just different enemies...

i think the demo for black on ps2 was slightly different too - the toughness ramped up i remember right

ICO is the classic here. The solution to one puzzle in the demo is utterly different to how it played out in the final game.

FEAR2 also follows the pattern of the earlier games by being made up of small sections from different places in the final game.

Half Life 1's demo was entirely new and actually fairly large. To the extent where people who'd finished the game downloaded it to play.

Sega Rally on the Saturn. The demo played a lot slower than the full game.

Wow I'd forgotten about the half-life demo, that totally blew my teenage mind back in the day, I knew immedietly I must have half-life, even on my utterly, utterly rubbish PC at the time it was spellbinding.

oh was also thinking aswell....were there any games that were taken back even though they were done...to be improved

i remember nightmare creatures for the psone was done....was reviewed in cvg....but they actually took it back to make it better

PAL version ofMetropolis Street Racer on the DC had a notorious bug... They made two extra versions afterwards IIRC.

Jaguar XJ220 on the Amiga. The demo had lovely graphics, smooth framerate and simultaneous music & audio. The full game looked much rougher (no pretty sunsets or light glinting on the car model), worse framerate, and you had to choose either music OR audio. Crap.

The Bioshock demo had some improvements over the final game as it was created after the game was finished. Only minor stuff - different enemy\turret locations etc.

FEAR 2 has set pieces in different locations. I think the sarge gets raped by those tentacles in the school in the demo and elsewhere in the final game.
