Reasons why Super Mario Kart may not be on VC?

After more than two years you'd expect Super Mario Kart SNES to be on the Virtual Console.

Why do you think this has not happened? Can emulating it really be that difficult?

You'd think not, but I guess the answer must be "yes" since other notable games that had the DSP or Super FX chips inside (Pilotwings, StarFox, Yossy Island etc) aren't available either.

I kind of thought Super FX based games might be more troublesome to emulate smoothly.

Does anyone have any thoughts on why DSP-1 chip emulation might cause such a problem?

It's not as if the Wii isn't powerful enough to emulate it, the emulator probably isn't ready yet.

I was going to suggest this. Considering how well the current versions are selling, you've got to wonder if they feel it's not in their best interests to release SMK.

I don't know if this is the case. OK Mario Kart 64 isn't as good as SMK in my opinion, but I can't see why Nintendo would favour one over the other tbh.

The SNES one is the definitive version, and beats all others hands down even though Nintendo has had well over 15 years to take back its own crown.

It would cost about £4, which is more than a little bit cheaper than the Wii version. I doubt difficulty of emulation has anything to do with it.
