Recommend me a Co-Op game like RE5 for my M.Ed research project!

    hi all,
As posted in another thread I'm just putting together a Master's research project in my secondary school looking at the influence of social gamig on students'attainment. I've picked a few titles with help from that thread, but am now a little stuck.

I have selected 'Portal' for a guided exercise and possibley PES for a team game but now I'm lookng for a Co-op (2-4 players) in the veign of RE5 or even Left 4 Dead where you have to work together to overcome some puzzle elements, share supplies etc. etc. But i need one suitable for 13-15 year olds and while I could get a parental consent form it will probably prove to be too much hassle. It can be a strategy game or have some sort of cerebral element - just one that either 2-4 players can work co-op against the CPU ideally.
I have a 360, PS3 and an original Xbox with a slew of emu's on so most formats are fine bar then newer Nintendo stuff - GC,Wii, DS etc. - so I don't have access to the new Ninty titles.

    Any ideas?
    Cheers again.

Well, you could try 2-player Gradius? I don't know exactly how you want the co-op element to be presented, but Gradius has resource-planning in the sense that 2 players does not equal the game giving you twice as many power-ups so the two of you would have to decide who gets power-ups. Though that's a little bit of an abstract co-op compared to actual implemented co-op mechanics in games like RE5 and L4D...

How about the XBLA game N+ ? Has co-op and is great fun! Has levels where you have to make the "enemies" follow you, so your co-op partner can make his way to the switch and exit, thus completing the level for you both!

The Conflict series (Desert Storm, Vietnam etc) are very good in what you're looking for: they are actually pretty strategic and need a good sense of co-operation when played together (1-4 players). You can also share every item found in the game. Only thing would be the minimum age, as I don't know if it's rated 16.

Im gonna list a mash up of co-op oldies from my brains.
Smash TV, Gauntlet, Toejam & Earl, Streets Of Rage Series, Zombies Ate My Neighbours, Ghoul Patrol, Gunstar Heroes, Mercs, Contra Series, The Lost Viking 1 or 2, Bubble Bobble, Snow Brothers, Pang.
You also have your Ikarugas nearly all vertical/horizontal shooters 2 player co-op age

The oldies were the best for 2 player co-op play on the one console.

N+ certainly sounds like a good bet; I'll download it and give it a blast.
cheers FamilyFry for the list, I did think a bit of TJ&E and Zombes Ate...as was playing these last night, but looking for something a bit more puzzle orientated - although Lost Vikings may be a good idea.

The Conflict series also sounds interesting and aren't games I'm familiar with - so will give these are blast and see if they're what I'm lookin for - many thanks peoples

Schizoid on XBLA is one of the most co-operative co-op games I've played in a long time.
Definately worth trying that one out to see if it meets your needs.

Ikaruga is quite a nice Co-op experience too, requring you to call out what bullet you are going to absorb/ kill with.

                  Zelda 4 swords
Designed from the ground up for Co-op

Wakeboarding unleashed, a secret gem of a game with a mint co-op mode too.

                  Splinter Cell : Chaos Theory
Plenty of puzzles/ledges that require both people to work together, it's even funnier when played with headsets on, because the enemies hear you talking and you can make noise to distract them or if you are talking too loud when coordinating attacks they will come after you.

do you have a pc as any MMO ha plenty co op stuff
360 Phantasy Star Universe the 4 player dungeons etc have like panels which 1 has to stand on while the other opens the door then you have classes ie healer which you need or youd all die plus everybody has to work together with a commom aim surviving and usually killing the boss all the games require good communication co ordination teamwork and skill
                      HAPPY GAMING !!!

Shame you can't use Left 4 Dead as that's a real "work as a team or die" game.

Little Big Planet is a great suggestion!

How about one of the Lego games? They've got some great co-op bits.

You might want to have a look at Co-optimus.com. Here's their list of games.

Crackdown, would that be of this kind of style? Was just thinking about Co-Op games there, I have got my GF a 360 for her birthday and Fable II, as she enjoyed playing the game on my 360, so now we can play together, I know not as we all envisaged, but it will do alright I think.

Anyhow, I was wondering what other games might be like this, which arent shooters; cause I have only just got her into gaming via Rock Band and now Fable, and I dont think I'll throw Gears or CoD at her yet! Does anyone have any other ideas for Co-Op games rather than competitive ones thru Live. I bought that Burnout /Trivial Pursuit double pack there, and Trivial Pursuit aint playable over Live, how bobbins is that.

                              Halo 1/2/3 ?

Chaos Engine on Amiga and 16 bits consoles.

Sports games working together ie Doubles in Tennis games.
