Bizarre Creations new game: Blur [PS3/360]

Looks like we should expect some detail on this soon, as it has gotten some coverage in a French magazine.

From what can be gathered via robotic translation, it seems that Blur is a departure from the more straightforward approach of PGR, instead allowing you to use various weapons on your opponents. Mines, shields and even some sort of electric attack sound to be in at the moment.

It also seems that Bizarre has revamped its collision technology, allowing for cars to crumple and damaged to reflect the impacts of these attacks. The game will take place in, or at least be based on, major cities like San Francisco, New York, Los Angeles, London, Tokyo and more.

Sounds like a more straight-faced take on Twisted Metal... or Wipeout with cars, now I think about it.

Although I'm never a fan of driving games with power-ups, Bizarre's track record and the videos are putting this well ahead of the other arcade racers on the way at the moment.

That looks nice.

The thing I love about PGR is that it is an arcade racer, yet the vehicles have a real weight and heft to them. You really throw the car into the corners rather than just cruise around them like in Outrun or Burnout.

If they can continue this and nail the powerups, then this could be great.

I can't shake the feeling that despite Bizarres track record this is gonna be a bit limp. To me it looks a bit tired, the 90's arcade cardboard box collision animation not helping either. Hopefully it'll deliver and if not we've still got Split/Second

I loved the PGR series as it was the perfect mix of realism and arcade. This however looks a little bit too arcadey for my liking especially with all the powerups.

Why does a racing game need a beta? You don't have to worry about balancing much and they tend to only need crude netcode.

Beta's are increasingly becoming glorified demos.

Well I would like to think since it's a racing battle game they can still tinker with weapon settings and sort out any balancing issues. I do agree though that beta is the new demo, also beats paying for QA when people do it for free
