how many of us care about PQ etc

I'm assuming, based on what I read of people's posts, that it's going to be most of you, but curiosity drives me to ask: how many of you on this forum give a **** about picture quality, resolution, ntsc/pal, hd, rgb and all that wank? I believe I am well and truly in the minority here, but I can't really tell the difference (maybe I would if I ever bothered to invest in one of the 'better' set ups and could compare). The reasons for this are twofold; 1. I am very lazy and quite poor, 2. I guess I have quite a high tolerance for ****ty picture quality and am perfectly content to play PAL games at 50hz (I assume) on a crt or on an hd lcd. Please don't ruin my life (and bank account) by showing me the error of my ways.

I do, but I don't care if other people don't. I only think we end up with a problem when one person tells the other what they should think about it.

I think it certainly can lead to an obsession, I'm guilty of this myself. I'm a bit more laid-back towards it these days, as long as there are no noticable visual 'uglies', and things look pleasing to my eye and reasonably accurate, I'm satisfied.

I think it's natural when you spend £500+ on a TV to want everything to look as good as it can. I went for most of my lift on a 14" portable and didn't care for the most part. I eventually made an effort to ensure everything was connected using RGB 60Hz when possible, and the difference pleased me. My purchase of a HDTV ~2005 made me that little bit more fussy about PQ in general, but people are pretty laid back about things like that on here actually.

Hz rate is separate issue, because this has a direct effect on the gameplay, and thus is quite important.

Not so much these days as it is much easier to get good PQ. In the past though with composite or s-vid or even rf if you were really unlucky there was a lot of scope for improvement.

The finer points (Upscalers and what have you) don't concern me, but anything below 60Hz RGB SCART is a no-no.

I can't understand what any of you are saying.

Didn?t care much for PQ until I wanted to hook my DC up to my PC. After that it was import only - though it feels like a waste as PAL PSX, N64 and GC games look superior.

                    I blame the dreamcast.
Once I saw RGB,VGA and 60hz running after saying it made no difference to me I became a snob, I'm over that all now especially after playing No More Heroes.
Learned to cope with it and went back to my 16-bit way of thinking, when I loved most games and PQ/Graphics were bottom of the list.

I care. I'm not obsessive over it and don't have the greatest setup in the world but I care. Why wouldn't I? If I can get a better picture easily then it would be nuts not to. I can't possibly imagine why that might be considered snobbish or a problem.

I have a cheap, philips 720 32" set. Picture looks great. I have friends with 50" 1080p plasmas. Picture is probably better if you put them side by side but TBH the major difference is screens size. I'm blessed with perfect vision but cannot tell the difference between a blu-ray and an upscaled DVD through my PS3. On a non-upscaled picture I also see no difference between RGB scart and Component. I've tried this using a PS2, Gamecube and a decent Pioneer DVD player on 2 TVs (Phuilips and a Bravia).

However, the difference between 50Hz and 60Hz on older consoles is night and day. 50Hz looks like an ugly mess to me now.

I didn't really think about it at all until I replaced my CRT with a shiny 720p LCD. Playing the PS2 through component is nasty. Doesn't help that the high contrast of Persona 4 (especially the entering the TV animation) and eyecandy of Odin's Sphere are especially good/bad at showing up a bad quality picture.

Don't know about giving a **** about all this, but swearing in the topic title isn't going to do much for those of us browsing from work.

When it comes to console games, I don't care. I can play on any TV in any resolution so long as it's viewable. I do prefer my HDTV obviously, but if I play the Wii on someone elses HDTV without component, I won't care.

Playing games on the PC, mind, is a whole different story. I tend to not play them because I used to spend too much time in the graphics menu. It's not healthy.
