    Pics of weird Sega gear...

This is an offshoot from the Sega Hardware Map thread where we started talking about specific sega hardware pics, and I thought it might have some more general interest.

The Sonic Saturn, ladies and gentlemen:

The outside of the image is pixellated to hide the fact that, at the time, it was filthy. Found it in a shop, it's the only one I've ever seen except for one other picture on the web.

And the inside and outside of Sega's photo-editing 32X-based touchpad Picture Magic system:

Note the SmartMedia Card slot on the right front corner.
5v only, sadly, so it's basically useless.

The yellow line surrounds the entire 32X PCB,
lifted straight out of the 32X with almost no modification.

And while I'm posting pics of weird Sega hardware...

The Samsung Saturn's menu screen doesn't list Japanese as a language option:

Early Saturn modem, pre-XBand, featuring an Aiwa 14.4k modem and serial board adaptor in a huge metal shell that sits under the Saturn. A half-paragraph mention and a photo in an old GameFan magazine said this was to be used in cooperation with Nissan for dealers or something... It's all very strange.

Anyone could make that Sonic Saturn. Its just a normal white Saturn with a black Sonic transfer printed on it. Surely not official.

It certainly looks official if you get close. There's no transparent fringe like you'd expect from a transfer, and in any case, where did the transfer come from?

And the fact that I've seen another identical unit...

Here's a closeup, and if you click, an extreme closeup.

Its a good print, but it wouldn't be that hard to replicate. What about the actual packaging, what is that like? Does it pertain to the Sonic motif?

Sadly I never got the box. The controller is your normal pad.

That's a sonic project Saturn. "Need to know" Sonic Project was a three title series of games in Japan designerd to raise the profile of Sonic before the release of Sonic Adventure on the DC. The three games were Sonic Jam, R and 3D.
I have a promotional stamp of the Same Sonic logo so that Saturn is legit.

I saw that Sonic Saturn in a shop in the videogame district by Republique in Paris. Don't recall the price though. Seem to remember it sitting on its box too....

Lawrence, how rare are those Sega Picture Magic machines? I scored one off ebay a couple months back. I also have the digital camera for it (with box+instructions) and the Sega data card it uses. Awesome little camera too, and the editing machine is really amazing stuff, even today. Are these on the level of rare as a Hisaturn Navi? I doubt it, but I just thought I'd ask...
