I got a rep to protect

Does the 'rep' you receive on XBox Live mean anything?

Last night I looked at my rep for probably the second time since owning a 360, & of the 27% of people that have avoided me, 75% found me unsporting & 25% found me disruptive. I'm assuming these are just feeble protestations from people I've beaten on SFIV, but I was just wondering if there's any point to it?

Can you view other peoples? The fact that it seems to be anonymous makes it even more pointless in my mind.

Also, what happens if you get 100% of people avoiding you?

I didn't even know you could check that!

7% of people avoided me, all of them for being unsporting. I didn't even do anything

It'd be good if it told you how many people preferred you, rather than just how many people couldn't be bothered to submit a rating.

I believe that if you give someone bad feedback, when you join online games, it will avoid matching you with that player. I'm not sure if it works vice-versa (i.e. giving good feedback will try and link you with that player online.)

The auto matchmaking is meant to avoid players you've tagged with bad reputation. Tagging someone with good rep increases the chance of playing them in matchmaking. And one good rep cancels out dozens of bad reps.

It's not the same thing as the complaints system, which is for actual terms of service violations. That does get looked at by the chaps that run the system.

I've had bad feedback once for being 'aggressive'.

Unfortunately I think it must have been the occasion where I knocked someone off the race track in Forza 2 to get in front, it was deliberate I admit! Normally I try to avoid making such cheap moves but I couldn't help it.

I'm on 51% pro, 49% against, most of which is for unsporting behaviour. Probably people I've beaten in SF4 or GoW2... not that I do anything wrong, I just happen to win.

The rep is rather pointless, I've never seen anyone with less than 5 stars

Don't worry about what that % for/against screen says ... it doesn't matter one jot.

For instance, I have a rather high percentage of people who have negged me, but my overall rep rating is 99.79% (you can see the value if you know where to look).

There are a few out there with 2 and a half and upwards that I'v encountered. If their rep is that low it's usually because they are the noisy disruptive bad loser types.

not wanting to get into a North vs South debate (Scotland World champions 1967)

but its nice to see English people state that they are only being negged because they are good at a game and beating others

where is John Motson when you need him*

                      *

its in jest fellas, no need to prepare the bagshot at this time

Don't worry Geoff my love, I won't neg you out

Seriously though I agree with Mayhem I am sure this happens when you have the audacity to beat someone. Hell, the other day I won a match on Street Fighter IV and some American ameoba sent me a message calling me a "spam bitch cock sucker", completely out of the blue.

By the way Jason, you can't comment here until you actually get yourself an Xbox Live account and come and play with the big boys.

Everyone starts at 3, but you only need a handful of positives to hit 5. It takes a lot of negatives to cancel out the positives, so to be less the 3 you have to be really raking in the complaints.

It's biased towards the positive responses purely to eliminate the whole thing you mention, where sore losers just bad rep people.

I got negged for being abusive on the comms when playing randoms on PDZ. Impressive given that my headset wasn't in use for the whole time.
