Madworld - WTF is wrong with the screen ratio?

On my 50" Pioneer it appears to have a 25mm black box around it and it's a bit squashed! I've tried all image options and none of them look very good. What's the point of centralising the aspect ratio and stuff in the console settings, if developers are just going to ignore them and do their own thing?

    Am I missing something?

    Same for everyone I'm afraid.

Yup, you aren't missing anything, just another Wii game that has borders all over the shop.

Such a shame. It's a bit like RE4 was on Gamecube then. Didn't ruin the game, but it is a pain in the sphincter having to zoom and unzoom when flicking between consoles and games...

Usually this is a case of going overboard with the CRT overscan compensation, though I've not played Madworld.

You mean like borders on top and bottom of the screen? Thats because it's a botched 50hz conversion. Your TV is fine. I am suprised in this day and age too.

The USA version has borders too, and they're not just the top and bottom of the screen.

Yep, it's borders all around. Gamecube always had borders at the sides on 480p almost 10 years ago. But this is a sad 50Hz release on Wii, in 2009 with a black frame all around the screen. And it's not small either.

Perhaps because the graphics are black and white they thought they'd go back to the old 405-line display system too

could any Wii game look good stretched across a 50" screen?

My bad, I thought the NTSC version doesn't have borders. Are the borders in the PAL version bigger?

Plenty do like Wii Sports, and Super Mario Galaxy in particular. MadWorld looks fine aside from the borders.

It's actually output in 480i, which is pretty shocking considering it's a modern action game.

I really don't know what they were thinking with this one. I'm starting to think this was a training project for the new hires TBH.
