Diddy Kong Racing - stuck in Rare licensing limbo?

Am I right with the above? Can we expect to never see it while Rare is owned by a rival manufacturer?
Or does anyone have any hint or idea of when we can expect DKR to appear on the VC?
As someone who played it extensively but only ever a mate's one or on my V64, I never got around to owning DKR, so would happily drop $10 on it if it was released on the Wii VC.

Tis probably the same kinda thing as GoldenEye licence. Diddy Kong did come to DS

I would honestly say it is worth laying down the cash for US NTSC 64 RGB mod and get the original, not only is the multiplayer fantastic, the single player game is challenging and one of the most lovingly crafted cart racers of all time. Accolades are deserving for this game.

I have all that NTSC N64 with RGB gubbins, just not the cartridge and don't have the N64 here with me, it's in storage as I have other stuff out at the moment and don't want to get it out just for one game.
Holio: I tried the DS one, it doesn't feel right, especially not with the DS pad, I can't get on with it.
It truly is an excellent game though. I did complete it in both modes back then. Unusual of me not to have bought it seeing as I liked it, I must have been going through a lean patch.

My younger brother curses the DS version. N64 all the way. I did ask the same question myself on another gaming board a while ago, Diddy Kong Racing is such a fabulous game.

I think it stands a chance at coming to Virtual console if they remove Banjo and Conker, given that they're Rare/MS IP and the rest is Nintendo IP.

Rare made DKC but it came on Virtual console. So I think it would just be the characters stopping it from being released

the ds version is indeed disgraceful and they removed banjo and conker from that one i suspect due to licencing (cant have a microsoft/nintendo crossover). i really hope it gets a vc release though as its well deserving of one.

Bah! Why can't they just give Rare 20%? Would sales of DKR featuring Rare/MS IP really eat into their future projects? Annoying

i dont think it would at all. in fact, its advertising ms characters on an opposing console! if microsoft can get away with a gameboy in banjo kazooie then surely 1 or 2 mascots in a racing game isnt an issue.

same with goldeneye. why cant they just let activision publish and split the remaining profits between ms and ninty

Plus Viva Pinata is on the DS and that was made for the 360, unique characters, so who knows what is holding it all up. I have just got the DS version from ebay, is it really that bad?

Rare and Nintendo just seem to avoid anything that has licensing issues of any sort. I don't expect to see Mickey's Speedway for the same reasons. Diddy Kong Racing could appear but I'd expect it to be way down the line anyway as the DS was so recent.

Microsoft have no worries when it comes to DS as they currently have no interest in the handheld market (recent rumours suggest otherwise)

However it's possible they see VC as a direct competitor to XBLA.

Nintendo and Rare should just sign an agreement that releases ALL Rare deveoped N64 games on Virtual console and XBLA, VC gets conker and banjo etc, XBLA gets donkey kong 64, diddy kong racing, and vice versa

I think they are both worried that the releases will look better on the competition's system and worse on their own.

whilst i spout friendship and happiness on this issue, i have to admit that i would be appalled, enraged and disgusted if any of the donkey kong games (or any other nintendo property) appeared on xbla
