Anyone else underwhelmed by PSN

Got my PS3 at Christmas and pretty happy with it overall

Once aspect that seems to be massively lacking is the downloadable games on PSN.

Just looking through the store and there is precious little to get excited about other than

- Megaman 9
- Street fighter 2
- GTI club
- Outrun online
- Rampart (starting to scrape the barrel here!)
- Gauntlet 2
- Champ Sprint

Is this a Sony policy - they seem to be very much focused on downloadable content for PS3 games instead?
I am looking at the Wii virtual console enviously, and XBL also seems to have a better selection

Why doesn't Sony get the rights to:
Ghouls n ghosts
Strider
Final Fight
Flying Shark

and surely R types and R type delta would be easy for sony to put on PSN, as would Gradius Gaiden

You couldn't have looked very hard, you haven't listed any of the PSN games that I own (bar Outrun) and I consider those games to be the best that the service has to offer!

Seriously, do you just want to replay old games? There are LOADS of original quality titles on PSN Downloadable titles do not have to purely have been released in the 70's & 80's. The best games on PSN and Live are the original titles

No chance, not for me anyway. Its the remakes and "sequels" that are the real gems - Ikaruga, Rez, OutRun, Bionic Commando, WipEout, SSFII, Lumines, Pac-Man CE, R-Type, Bomberman etc etc.
I find the majority of original games a bit "throwaway" by comparison. There certainly aren't many I keep going back to.

As this is (ostensibly) an import site, Japanese games do count (and the games youlisted have a Japanese bent). Work out how to get J PSN access and play plenty of great PS1 games.
Other than that, I can only say "go and look again".

i'd second the view you really haven't had a look from your list of games.

for me the single biggest problem with PSN is the lack of a demo every week for all new releases, it seems such a good idea, I've often bought stuff on XBLA due to the demo, I'm just not willing to risk the money blind on PSN stuff so consider my purchases far more.

Jesus, if you can't find quality on the PSN you have a seriously differing view on what is "quality" than most people.

Wipeout HD - the best thing on it, by a long way

Cuboid is pretty good as well.

Apart from that, yes...I am very underwhelmed. Wipeout makes up for it though
