hmm, was looking at getting that usb thingy until I read that it apparently has incredibly slow load times.

The PS2 only had USB1.1, so the USB HDD Loader is no good.

HDAdvance is fine, but you're paying money for something you can download from the internet for free, and run using the 'Free MC Boot' exploit. HDAdvance is an unofficial, disc-based version of fan contributions that have been made freely available on the internet.

HDAdvance 3.0 is also only a reskin of HDLoader 0.7c. Given that compatibility patches now put us up to 0.8c, HDA is only good for setting up FMCB or the Independence Exploit.

I've got no idea what you guys are on about, but I've found HD Advance easy to use and very efficient.

Just thought I'd give it a thumbs up because the tone of some of these other posts is a bit cussy!

There's absolutely no way of running hd-advance on a slim is there?

^There is a pretty mental hack where you can solder an IDE connector to the motherboard of the Slim, because the traces were still there. I think these traces were removed on later Slim consoles though, and it kinda defeats the point of a slim anyway. It always looked like a mammoth job, and probably easier to just buy a cheap 'fat' console.
