    Street Fighter pads for 360

Didn't need one of these for SF IV (or any other 2D fighter as I buy them on PS3) but definitely want to rebuy Garou when it comes out and thought that having one of these would suit it and the 360's shmups better than the regular pad. Just wanting confirmation that the d-pad is a marked improvement and advice on the cheapest place to get one atm. Ta

Based on my experience with a Chun-li 360 pad its not very good the pad wasn't registering diagonals unless you put a lot of pressure on it. I got rid of it after a quick play test, the idea that crouch blocking could become a risky endeavour is enough to put anyone off. Funnily enough when it came to performing moves when I wanted a Hadouken I ended up getting Shoryuken instead. perhaps some bad some are good but the one I had was bad and a recent one at that as it was purchased from Amazon a few weeks ago.

On the other hand I noticed a marked difference between the SF pads and the regular 360 pads.

They aren't perfect but I found them a lot better.

Beware though, I have kinda tossed one of mine about a bit as SF sessions got heated and I'd kind of flippantly toss it on to the table or whatever. One has now broken and won't register dpad movement.

          Oh, is that your excuse?

I thought they were okay, but they're nowhere near as good as a Saturn pad. Diagonals seemed not to register as easily as I'd've liked, and I think the dpad is just generally a bit too big. Better than the standard dpad, clearly, but not great compared to pads for other systems.

I'm not sure what the alternative would be for 360, though, short of padhacking or using something like an XFPS.

Its pure madness MS haven't stepped up and released a newer pad other than that green Pro Evo failure. Many gamers would have no problem buying a new improved pad since most of those that would choose to would be those that like to use controllers for fighters. The sad truth is there is no alternative as pointed out above you'll have to hack a Saturn pad else start practising with Joysticks.

I had the same problem as a couple of other people with the dodgy diagonals. You mentioned you wanted it for shmups which was my main reason and I found it particularly bad for those. I've since picked up one of the cheaper Fightsticks which I upgraded to Seimitsu parts (ridiculously easy to do, no soldering required).

Funnily enough I seem to be the only person in the world who actually quite likes the standard 360 d-pad. I can only asume I use it in some strange manner unique to me and the designer!

They're okay. It is frustrating when you drop moves because of the stodgy sensitivity, though. Loads better than the regular D-pad, but I wish I'd put the money towards a stick now.

Thanks for the impressions guys. I'm considering getting a stick but am not great on fighters using one although I own all but one of the 360 shmups so I suppose it could be put to good use on them. Have there been any reasonably priced UK released sticks? Don't really want to import one and have to pay postage + customs.

The lowest priced stick in the UK is the Hori Ex2 which you can buy new for around ?40. Only things is, most comments I've seen on it are pretty average and it's supposed to be really difficult to mod. For about ?60-70 you can get the Street Fighter SE sticks. These aren't amazing out of the box, but they're really easy to upgrade to seimetsu parts, which I did to mine and now it's great for shmups. The other option is the Street Fighter TE sticks which have a Sanwa stick that has a bit too much movement for my liking and would still work out more expensive than buying an SE and upgrading it. There's also the Hori Real Arcade Pro due out later in the year, but they're about ?140 and you'd probably be best pre-ordering one now I would think as no doubt demand will be high!

Info on upgrading the SE stick is here (no soldering required, just need to remove a few screws!)

i got one of the sf4 pads mainly for shooters and was pretty disapointed, i prefer the standard dpad for shmups, but to be fair it was a lot better for streetfighter.
