    New portable Megadrive

Hardware manufacturer Innex plans to release a portable Mega Drive in the US.

Hardware manufacturer Innex will release a portable Mega Drive in the US.
Based on the 1995 Sega Nomad and Genesis handheld, the Retro Gen will allow gamers to play Mega Drive titles on-the-go.

As well as supporting cartridges, an SD card will also play downloaded games on the device, according to GameSetWatch.

The system will be powered by a rechargeable battery via USB, and feature a TV-out function, but will lack the two-player controller that the Nomad featured.

The Retro Gen will be released in the US on July 25 for $49.99, with no European release as yet planned.

Seen some pics of this the other day, doesn't look too bad as supposedly it allows you to play Japanese carts as well, not sure about the d-pad though.

Oh thank god for that. I didn't want to shell out over the odds for an unboxed nomad with a knackered screen and ****ty sound. Will be getting one of these I think.

I'm not liking the angle of the buttons myself.

The problem with these new systems isthat they are just emulated one chip systems. Now to the avarage Joe this wont matter but to the real gamer it will. You'll have sound issues, some games will have graphic issues and then there's some games that won't even run! I'd say getting a handheld media player with a good emulator would provide better results. The downside to that is, no real cartridge suport.

If this machine is based around real Mega Drive hardware then yes, it's a must buy but if it's just another typical MD on a chip crap then no unless you couldn't care less about the issues it WILL have.

Agreed on the d-pad. It looks terrible.

Yeah, the buttons look awkward and the D-pad looks rubbish. Why didn't they just make it look like a Megadrive controler??

at 57 seconds does that guy state that the sega genesis was a 32bit console?

and at minute 2.37 where he states that the new games are 64bit they have double the graphics

                    have i missed something

Read this over on the digitpress forums, theres another handheld megadrive on the way but unlike the one on the first page of this thread, this is an officially licensed Sega product made by ATGAMES, build quality looks better than the one by Innex, buttons still look a bit awkward though.

Yeah it doesn't look bad, can't believe how tiny it is though, it's barely bigger than a MD cart, think it's due in September, may wait for a Megadrive branded one though if I decide to buy one. It also plays JPN carts and is available in blue as well.
