Trying my hardest not to argue here, but this game died on it's arse just a few months after it was released - the development team abandoned it if I remember correctly (either that or they went bust and no-one saw fit to pick it up again) a point that the review fails to mention.
Certainly not a 9/10 game in anyone's books.Last edited by Daragon; 17-07-2009, 10:56.

When it shipped there were connection problems, which were then patched. I don't understand why the fact the developer was shut down after a game came out should affect the enjoyment someone gets from the game? If Bioware was shutdown a few months after Mass Effect shipped would it have made it any less fun to play?

A bad example to pick as comparrison there I think, that's a single player game with no online based content.
When you have a game that is purely online based, then it needs to be constantly updated to remain fresh. I'm not arguing that the game is bad for what is there, or that the review is badly written, but it's a pretty big omission.

Hope I'm not coming across as argumentative either, not meant that way,.
One of the key points I was trying to get across is that I don't think Shadowrun needs anything added to it to stay fresh. I've been playing this at least once a week for god knows how long now and I'm still learning, everytime I play I see something different.

I loved Shadowrun, absolutely adored it but no git friends of mine wanted to play it which led to it being dumped quite quickly
It's still one of the most impressive online games I've played though and finely balanced to a tee. I've been tempted to pick it up again for a while but was wondering, how big is the community these days now ?
Can I get into a game and see someone new everytime or is it the same group of people and you'll get trounced repeatedly ?

Don't think I'll bother reading any NTSC-uk reviews until they go through a more stringent screening process.
Not played the game, it could be the best thing ever for all I know; what I do know is on metacritic this has 66 and this site gives it a 9 - making it the second highest score once it gets on metacritic. R6V gets 88 on metacritic, on here it gets a 4 - making it the lowest score on that list.
You fellas looking for hits by being controversial??

It really is a great game, kind of like a spiritual successor to Counterstrike. I think the fantasy elements really counted against the game when it came out, that was certainly the reason a couple of my friends refused to play it.
Anyway, I've just fired it up and got into a game within 1 minute both times I tried. Only showed about 20 matches though. I reckon its definitely still worth picking up for a fiver...

Even if I end up not playing it for long I've had this urge to play it again for a long time, need to have a few games at least. If anyone else here has it or fancies a few games maybe we could arrange something sometime (if there's enough people that is)

Came out on my birthday if I recall, had been looking forward to it for ages. Managed to get a few hours in before we went on holiday. Came back a few weeks later and most people I knew had abandoned it. A real shame as I enjoyed it and I still own it.
For me it's nowhere near a 9/10 game, as that score says (to me) "This game is nearly perfect" but then I'm very much an advocate of reading the text of a review to get the score, I'm not a fan of scores at all. Look at Eurogamer, 2-4 page reviews yet I bet most people skip to the last page for the score then start ranting about it without reading the justificaton prior to it.
