Backing up Games bought on PSN - Possilble?

    Hi people,

I'm sure its probably been asked before but the search function isn't working for me....just times out for some reason.

Basically I was wondering if its possible to backup games bought on the PSN (Both PS1 and PS3) so that if the hdd was replaced or the worst happened it'd be easy to restore.

I'm guessing the answer lies somewhere within the system backup option but both my external hdds aren't recognised by the PS3.....probably i'm guessing because they're formatted NTFS.

So whats the score? If its a case of only Fat32 can be read by a ps3 whats the highest particon that the PS3 will recognise on an external drive/.

    Any ideas?

When you buy the game from the PSN store, you are allowed to Download the game 5 times without any problem, thus if you have to replace the HDD due to a problem or an upgrade you will be able to download it again, just sign in with the account you bought it with and then bring up the list of everything you have Downloaded and click to re-download something. I know I downloaded Wipeout HD twice due to the system being so laggy one night, which burned one of my Downloads then.

I thought it was infinite downloads, but only to 5 different machines?

I just backed up my whole HDD when I upgraded theinnards. Did not need to redownload - stuff (demos and full games) was on there again when I restored.

it has to be FAT32, yeah, don't use a USB flash drive as it takes ages. It takes ages with a USB HDD too but not as long.

I guess you can decrease the size of the overall backup by cleaning up things first and even deleting your demos and redownloading, up to you though.

I use a SanDisk Cruzer USB drive to back up the entire HDD (13-14GB), and it takes about 40 minutes. I just make sure I get rid of any demos or crap I don't want (PS Home downloads).
