Serious Sam HD - XBLA and PC

    http://www.croteam.com/

EDISON, N.J., June 25, 2009 ? Legions of long-time fans and a whole new generation of gamers around the world can now experience serious shooting mayhem as Majesco Entertainment, an innovative provider of video games for the mass market, today announced that Serious Sam: The First Encounter HD is coming to Xbox LIVE? Arcade for the Xbox 360? video game and entertainment system from Microsoft. Developed by Croteam, the creators of the Serious Sam franchise, and produced in partnership with Devolver Digital, Serious Sam: The First Encounter is re-tooled and re-vamped in glorious High Definition with an all-new version of the CroTech engine.

?We are really excited to update our hero and recreate Sam in stunning high definition for Xbox LIVE Arcade players,? said Roman Ribaric, CEO of Croteam. ?The fans have lobbied us hard to do this, so we are stoked about bringing Sam back as big, bold and bad as he ever was.?

The game is being produced by Devolver Digital, a brand new production and publishing company based in Austin, Texas, specializing in delivering top quality entertainment to gamers worldwide at affordable prices by any and all means available.

?We are almost inappropriately excited that this fun and robust game is our first humble offering to gamers worldwide,? said an unnamed, masked spokesperson for Devolver Digital. ?And bridging the gap between the fine folks at Croteam and Majesco feels good too. It?s a long way from Croatia to New Jersey, but worth the walk.?

?Xbox LIVE Arcade is an important platform in our overall strategic plan,? said Gui Karyo, Executive Vice President of Operations for Majesco. ?Serious Sam has a long history of console success and this graphically enhanced version is a great first title to kick off our Xbox Live Arcade initiative.?

Serious Sam HD is not your mother?s generic, large-scale, orchestral scored, Space Marine-themed epic FPS with dialog that pretends it?s an RPG...instead, Serious Sam HD is a grab you by the jibblies run and gun, twitch FPS: BIG guns, TONS of enemies, 4-Player Online Co-Op and stunningly superfluous HD graphics that rival retail boxed games. You've waited forever but Serious Sam is back from the nether with its award-winning game play that will remind you why you play FPSs in the first place.
Bit surprised that nobody else has posted this. I did search and couldn't find anything.

Really excited by the addition of 4-player online co-op!
There's been a bit of a co-op drought of late.

I've definitely seen it mentioned here before. Might be in the XBLA discussion thread. Certainly deserves its own thread though!

Loved the original game so am very much looking forward to this. You can follow the producers on Twitter: Devolver Digital.

This will be great fun co-op, and good to see it as a downloadable title. The removal of some restrictions is really opening up XBLA to wonderful titles.

Wow, those old SS visuals look really dated! I seems to remember it looking better than that in my head . . . . . I guess rose tinted glasses an all that jazz . . .

really loved serious same kindoff felt that fps games had lost the art of finding secrets in more recent years

                so this will be great

When are MS going to release an overpriced 1 GB Memory Unit to fit games like Battlefield 1943 on.

I assume they are using the SS2 engine and remaking the original game? Its could be fun, the only thing that bothers me was the art is always a bit weird. The sky seems really detached and I can't say I even really liked any other the enemies looks. The headless guys are quite good fun but everything else looks so badly designed.

I guess you could say the same about Duke Nukem whcih is practically the mould for old Sammy boy. Then again they never got to release a current gen game (although there has been some rumblings they may release what they had) I would have though that I would have felt the same about Duke being released. And of course that was going to be a full retail game.

I think I will see what its like when it comes out, how many MS points they dare to charge.

It's a new engine that they're using, not the SS2 game engine.

I think it's already been confirmed as 1200 points.

That's the thing - what we think looks stunning now will look decidedly ropey in 5 years time. Technology marches on

If this going to be exactly the same as the original SS? If so, I'm not sure how they'll going to market that to the PC crowd, because "HD" has no relevance in PC land.

The dev's would expect that PC gamers know HD just means a re-make with updated graphics. Kind of like The Secret of Monkey Island: Special Edition on PC.
