Hypothetical question re: an Xbox game

Okay, simple question: If N.U.D.E.@ was given a western release, would you buy it?

I'm just interested to know if this kind of game would be bought by this particular market (NTSC-UK readers). I'm not trying to pretend that any answers given would have any kind of basis for commercial viability or certain commercial failure. I'm just curious. That's all.

    Thanks.

(Yeah yeah, and sorry for sounding like a broken record).

I was intrigued from the design aspect of the game, it did look very unique, whilst the video trailers Ive seen are all similarly impressive. beyond that I know little of the details about the game. Ive heard you need to play this with a headset/microphone, is this correct? It is a game Im trying to get hold of for one of our guys to review as a matter of fact, we was only talking about this earlier this morning strangely enough.

Yeah. It's a raising game played using speech recognition.

Here's detailed impressions that were posted on the IGN board by ikachii, then coppied to the Gaming-Age board:

The guy who wrote them is a bit of a fanboy (lots of overstating of the Xbox's relative capabilities), but it gives you a good understanding of what the game is about.

        Later.

N.U.D.E. has always looked really interesting, I'd love an English language release.

reminds me of Seaman on the dc - so yep i would get it if english voice commands were implemented

ps Leynos - i agree with you wholeheartedly on the Xbox Gamer situation - i know that i won't be buying another copy of that magazine after the bull**** argument they gave you that Xbox owners aren't interested in games by japanese developers .......

Yeah, their attitude was very disappointing.

And yes, I'd buy this game if it was translated. It bothers me that Microsoft doesn't have the guts to release such games here, yet they're more than happy to release shoddy 1st party Western software like Azurik, Tao Feng and Bloodwake.

I was very interested in this in the beginning and was slight gutted when I realised I wouldn't be able to play it. A western release would be great.

well they have released bistro cupid2 in the us recently which is a gesture (albeit a half-hearted one) towards decent publishing sensibilities.

If microsoft made it a mahjong game it would have sold a million copies in Japan. As it is, its just a stupid concept that really doesn't seem worth the time.

So assuming I had an Xbox an there was a western release I would pass on this one.

Are you sure? I can't find it listed on Xbox.com, DVD Box Office or the US Electronic Boutique site. It has an entry for North America on GameFAQs, but no release date, or an "announced" entry. I fear someone may have been overzealous in their entry of data. Unless it was released under a different name?

Regarding N.U.D.E.@'s similarities to Seaman, yes, it's true that they do share a lot of gameplay elements. On the other hand, from Ikachii's description of the game, it would appear to offer many improvements over and gameplay elements not present in Seaman. Besides, the "voice constrolled raising game" isn't exactly a crowded genre in the west. :P (I've got Seaman for the Dreamcast, and I enjoyed playing it, fwiw.)

Thanks to everyone who's replied to this thread. It's been enlightening to read your replies.

                              Later.
