    Another fan of FF8 here.

Disappointments? Hmm... Loco Roco. I had built up the expectation that it might be a game. MGS4, well I guess I knew deep down that wouldn't be but, still, I expected better.

But, more often than not, I expect the worst. So I'm rarely disappointed and quite often pleasantly surprised. And I like being pleasantly surprised.

that game is unfairly maligned, imo.
I was in a good position to be let down by LittleBigPlanet: I bought an expensive console in order to play it. But after the majority of players have given up on the game, it's been quietly living up to its promises.

Now the number of superb experiences it's offering - for nothing - truly boggles the mind.

Contrast with Spore: a game which simply, honest-to-goodness, did not deliver on its early demos. (And unless the Adventure pack and "Creepy & Cute" nonsense have radically reinvented the game, it still doesn't.)

Personally the game I would put on top of the list is Super Mario Sunshine. It wasn't a bad game... But in context as the successor to SM64 it was the definition of disappointment.

I'm sure there's been plenty but it's hard to remember them all. Most recent one I can think of is GTA4. Not a bad game and I'm on the verge of giving it another go but the promise of a next gen GTA was let down for me by poor design choices, an awful design of a city and less to do in it than the (for me) superior PS2 releases.

On a really minor level I wanna mention MGS4 too. I adore the game but to me MGS3 was a tour de force and 4's return to MGS2 stylings was a bit of a shame.

I agree with Resi 5 as well, almost finished my interest in the series.

I think ultimately the problem with Spore and what makes it so disappointing is: It's supposed to be a game about evolution but there's no actual evolution involved.

I don't think I'll ever be more disappointed with a game than I was with Castlevania: Lament of Innocence on the PS2. Good early impressions led me to believe they'd made a 3D Castlevania that worked, but after playing it for a few hours I found it mind numbingly dull.

Horrible level design (I don't think Castlevania works without 2D + map) and the combat was awful. After I'd been through a room once I'd just run through the room at any other time to keep the combat to a minimum, whereas on the 2D versions I'll often go out of my way to clear out a room even if I don't need to.

            I hate it.

Oddly enough I expect Lords of Shadow to be good... but then I don't expect it to feel like Castlevania.

I would say Wind Waker as well. It was beautiful and it certainly had its moments, but there were many elements in there (Timed dungeons... I think(?), the stealth and ridiculous collect-a-thons) that sullied the experience. Wasn't a fan of the story either.

Tempest on XBLA is a huge disappointment, given the couple of superb versions out there which already exist.

Call of Jaurez: Bound in Blood

Terrible game, went in expecting all kinds of great things after impressions on here & elsewhere & all I found was a dire dull unenjoyable FPS.
Graphics were pretty & story ok but the gameplay was horrid, struggled with the whole thing.

Never finished it & dont intend too.

Worst trade I've done so far this gen.

Wind Waker will always get a pass from me just because of how unexpectedly bad ass the final boss fight was.

But yeah another dungeon rather than triforce hunting would have made the game much improved.
