There is nothing remotely tactical about that Sync Shot mechanic.

In the example in the video, no. That's an introduction to the mechanic. They will require a tactical approach the deeper you go. You may need all other team members to carefully find the best angle to take a shot before you sync, and you will need to thoroughly scout the area before being sure that once the shots are taken, that the bodies and bullets fired are not seen or heard. Then, there may be a fifth or sixth enemy to consider where your vantage point is more important to allow for you to take out two soldiers in one shot. All this, before counting into the sync shot.

      I'd say that's a bit tactical.

It's a poor man's version of the old Rainbow Six go-codes.

I meant in terms of positioning your team mates and telling them to charge / fall back / cover etc...

It is far more arcadey than GRAW ever was.

Personally, I'm glad there's no team mate commands. Slows it down, but that's not a criticism, that's just my preference as these days I like my games a bit more streamlined and pick up n play. Due to spending most of my old gaming time chasing a 17 month old about.

I'm not sure the old style tactical shooters will be back any time soon either.

Isn't she a bit young for you?

                I kid, I kid...

Scenarios like these makes the game seem much more methodical in the way one approaches situations than GRAW ever were. While GRAW let you boss your buddies around to a much higher degree, all you needed to do in each mission was usually just to get from point A to B, while killing everybody you encounter. In Future Soldier you often need to gather intel and set up your team before engaging enemies, as there are higher demands than simply leaving everybody dead for mission success.

That trailer does talk a good game, but they said the same thing about Conviction, and that just turned into the likes of "here's a doorway, and here's a pipe right next to it that leads to the overhead window right above, use 'tactics'". I just think those trailers seem to be using a lot of smoke and mirrors, he spends more time talking about abstract terms and doesn't show how scripted that sequence is.
