    Metro 2033 [360/PC]

    Trailer

The first game from 4a games a Ukranian team consisting of many of the GSC dev team (S.T.A.L.K.E.R.).

There isn't much about the game bar a couple of previews on the net and a blurb from the russian novel of the same name it is based on.

First impression of the trailer made me think Fallout meets Bioshock.

The year is 2033. The world has been reduced to rubble. Humanity is nearly extinct. The half-destroyed cities have become uninhabitable through radiation. Beyond their boundaries, they say, lie endless burned-out deserts and the remains of splintered forests. Survivors still remember the past greatness of humankind. But the last remains of civilisation have already become a distant memory, the stuff of myth and legend. More than 20 years have passed since the last plane took off from the earth. Rusted railways lead into emptiness. The ether is void and the airwaves echo to a soulless howling where previously the frequencies were full of news from Tokyo, New York, Buenos Aires. Man has handed over stewardship of the earth to new life-forms. Mutated by radiation, they are better adapted to the new world. Man's time is over. A few score thousand survivors live on, not knowing whether they are the only ones left on earth. They live in the Moscow Metro - the biggest air-raid shelter ever built. It is humanity's last refuge. Stations have become mini-statelets, their people uniting around ideas, religions, water-filters - or the simple need to repulse an enemy incursion. It is a world without a tomorrow, with no room for dreams, plans, hopes. Feelings have given way to instinct - the most important of which is survival. Survival at any price. VDNKh is the northernmost inhabited station on its line. It was one of the Metro's best stations and still remains secure. But now a new and terrible threat has appeared. Artyom, a young man living in VDNKh, is given the task of penetrating to the heart of the Metro, to the legendary Polis, to alert everyone to the awful danger and to get help. He holds the future of his native station in his hands, the whole Metro - and maybe the whole of humanity.

Read a couple of previews (Eurogamer and IGN) for this and it sounds pretty good. S.T.A.L.K.E.R. is clearly an inspiration but hey if it turns out to be good, count me in.

Given they're ex-STALKER devs and they're drawing from a second (if rather more current) Russian SF novel I think we can forgive them. Playing Call of Pripyat at the moment and I'd forgotten how much I missed grim Soviet post-apocalyptia. Anyway... I watched a couple of the trailers and linear or not, Jesus, this looks pretty good. After the previews too I'm seriously considering pre-purchasing it on Steam already.

The recent run of trailers on XBL have really caught my attention on this game. Was nice to see it's out as early as next month too

Been looking forward to this for a while now in a kind of 'could be good for £20' way, but the more I see the more I think this will be a day1 purchase. Loving all the 1st person cinematic stuff, not enough FPS games make you feel like you're looking through the eyes of your character.

Sounds good, I hope they get a demo out, there has been next to no PR for this.

I'm actually looking forward to this.

The more I read about it, the better it sounds.

New trailer, not as "atmospheric" as the first but I'm still very much interested.

The animation and character design smacks of a last gen Xbox game. Not that it would put me off if the game is good....

Just reading the blurb on this and running about subway tunnels sounds like a real snorefest, looking at the videos though it dose seem that you get to go above ground too so its not all bad.

It reminds me an aufull lot of the very confusing subway bits in Fallout 3, so this could just be rubbing me up the wrong way from the start.

                        Three part developer walkthrough.

                        Part one: http://www.gametrailers.com/video/bl...tro-2033/62467
                        Part two: http://www.gametrailers.com/video/bl...tro-2033/62469
                        Part three: http://www.gametrailers.com/video/bl...tro-2033/62471

Looks pretty good me. I especially like way you have to manually charge up to use certain bits of equipment.

Only question is do I pick up it on release, knowing it is out on the same day as God of War III, or do I wait?! Hmm.

                          So is anyone getting this?

Been getting decent reviews. Will pick it up.

I thought the game was in development but only noticed it's being released this week in the UK.

I'm very interested but I think I'll wait in till more reviews are in and some impressions are posted. Knowing the PC based development, I'll wait to see how the 360 port has been handled.

I'll wait for reviews but the launch trailer released yesterday was excellent. On my phone so can't link but it's up on gametrailers.
