The specs of the original PSP wiped the floor with the original DS but we all know how that went down :|

Sony need to do something interesting. They tried bigger screen more power last time.

What Sony needed to do was simply not bother with PSP2 and save the cash.
Nintendo have that market stitched up.

I think people focus far too much on what a competitor has sold to measure the success of something, i'm fairly sure Sony have managed to turn a decent profit with the 60 million + of hardware sales for the original PSP so why not try and build on that.

So, what do people think, any chance PSP2 could have backwards compatibility with PSP games?

PSP Go doesn't even have backwards compatibility with PSP games

Yes its sold something like 50 million plus and still selling like hot cakes in Japan

Funny when everyone is raving about the GFX on 3DS games; That when most simply haven't see the system 3D effect in person and are just going on about the GFX; OMG !!! Look at RE on the 3DS.

And didn't NCl also bring out a DS with a bigger screen and use that as selling point ?

                This.

If car manufacturers thought like this we'd all be forced to drive Toyotas.

You don't need to sell the most. You just need to be profitable. Nintendo didn't give up on the home console when Sony's Playstation outsold the N64 3 to 1.

SONY are making a profit on each and every PSP's sold right now or for the last few years , SONY must have made millions money on the PS or PS2 too . And it really depends on ones definition of giving up; NCL made next No In-House games on the N64 for the last few years of it's life (left it all up to RARE), Unlike SONY which is still making or Publishing In-House games for the PSP 5+ years plus into its life.

What SONY really need to do , is sort out the PSP controls and loading times (which so hurt the PSP) for the sequel

I think FSW was talking more in regards to Nintendo not just quitting the console market after having their arse handed to them during the PS1 & PS2 era, they still managed to sell a respectable number of consoles for the time despite the huge difference in hardware sales next to it's competitor, so can still be considered a success, just not market leader.

I reckon the PSN releases could be, it's one of the main reasons why I've stopped buying UMD's now, in the hope that I can at least use my digital purchases with the PSP2.

Well, it's not really giving up if you own almost half of the company that is making top quality games exclusively for your console.

It wasn't close to half and NCL didn't even bother to publish Conkers in the UK or USA. NCL just gave up on the N64, during it last couple of years

Like SONY with the PSP, It also does depends one's ones definition of giving up. PSP is still selling well and SONY must be making money from each unit sold and is still to their credit producing or publishing some top quality games for the system

My understaning of what PSP2 should have that would make people want it. Grunt, and backwards compatibility games/remakes to buy/download. Entire PS2 back cat if that was possible would do well for it. Plus the price as Sony found out releasing a machine at a rip off price ala PS3 does you no favours at all.

                              X2 analogue sticks and an R1, R2, L1, L2.

It can still sell, not as much as the DS but if Sony take advange of things like MH, Fifa, Metal Gear, Resi Evil and other big selling franchises it will do well.

I would agree, though I think the pricing of games on the HH is very important. All this talk of grunt and power for both the PSP 2 and DS3 makes me think the games will cost as much as Home console games (360/PS3) and I don't think that's great for HH games.
