Hands on reports are saying it's lighter than the PSP1000, despite being bigger. Also saying it's sleek in the hand despite looking fairly bulky when displayed.

I've always been a Nintendo handheld man, but the 3DS's goofy ergonomics (see Kid Icarus) and bad battery life (apparently confirmed now) are making early adoption look like a bad idea.
In comparison, it looks like Sony has got everything right with this - a huge number of control possibilities, sensible ergonomics, and a very progressive take on digital distribution.
If they can create an environment where 64p iPhone titles can coexist alongside heavy hitters like Uncharted, this could be one hell of a device for gaming.

If they are using carts for the games im guessing the memory will be saved to those. For downloaded stuff i'll guess it'll be like the dsi where theres some onboard memory to save data to.
Still looks uncomfortable to play as the positioning of the stcks is too low down, i hated using the analogue stick on my old psp, made my hand cramp.
[edit] beaten to it..

Same old psp at the end of the day and will end up the same as the last one, by the time this is out 3DS will have millions of sales and
1st party classics like mario kart coming out.
The 3g feature where you can see where other players are, is that anyone ( non friends ) wont that lead to people tracking down each other knowing they have a psp could lead to theft.
I do like my psp and it has some good games i admit but it comes nowhere near to Nintendo for handheld gaming and never will.Last edited by yesteryeargames; 27-01-2011, 10:54.

You're assuming a lot about the PSP2 & the 3DS there.
There's no question that Nintendo have a stronger catalogue to mine from but that does not mean it will be a stronger console. Both consoles have the ability to pull something special out of the bag and I don't see why you assume the PSP2 won't be able to.

I was thinking about this earlier..
3DS - Nintendo stuff, virtual console, 3D, the extra second screen for more screen real estate.
NGP - A beast. Dual-analog. PSN. A more 'home console on the move' experience.
All in all? I'm getting both. I think they both offer something slightly different - just like the PSP and DS last time!

The original PSP was Sony's first crack at a handheld. I think we ought to cut them some slack. Although eclipsed by the DS the PSP is hardly a failure. 65 million consoles sold and it's still doing well in Japan. Last week PSP games held spots 1 and 2 in software sales (in Japan) - not bad for a console that has been ruined by piracy. Like most, I'll take a wait and see approach but the 3ds has no launch game that want. Hopefully the next PSP will.

but its interesting that a few people seem to be saying this, yet i see it totally the opposite way. 3DS is a DS with more power, and a 3D screen that i can see me turning off after initial excitement/wonder. this psp2 is way more than just a power upgrade of the original psp... more controls, touch pad, touch screen, sixaxis controls. very obviously not 'same old'
cant wait to get them both, good times
