Eurogamer have heard from their unnamed sources that the PSP2 is going feature touch based controls... On the back of the console.

Could be unwieldy but could also be a reasonable alternative to the analogue nub. Put two medium sized sensors on the back, give them clear tactile boundries and I'd imagine they'd work quite well.

One big touch sensor wouldn't though. Especially given you'd have a dead zone in the middle of the screen where you can barely reach.

God that sounds horrible! When I hold the PSP my index fingers go on the shoulder buttons. I can't imagine putting them on the rear and moving them around, any more than I can imagine doing that with my middle fingers. The angles are all wrong.

It also showed how spectacularly greedy companies get (not to mention lazy) when you take the retail store side of it out. Way over the odds pricing, lack of releases and little to no information on releases.

Which i find ridiculous when you consider that they can effectively finish a game one day and have it on the online store ready to download a few days after (well almost anyway).

The psp could use micro sd cards or micro memory sticks as the physical media, after all there probably cheap as chips to produce now, extremely small and don't require any moving parts. That way you can still release a physical box for retail and everybody is happy.

The ONLY way i could ever see PSP download only ever working is with a PC being involved for storing games on. 16GB is no where near enough with a GO.
I've a 60GB PS3, which is full of DLC, patches (oh the patches) etc, and really only ever have est 5GB free and thats for mandatory installs. I've not upgraded to a bigger HDD yet. And don't think i should suck up the expense.
iTunes stylie is really the only way to go with DLC, PC based, not PS3. I'd hate to have to waste bandwidth re-downloading something everytime i wanted to play it.
I'm just back from hols, and i packed the carrycase i had with every UMD i could, just incase i got 'that' urge to play something.

I think the idea of having almost all of my psp games (could never get them all 130+) in one handy package would be nice. But in all honesty my iPhone got 95% of my game playing attention while i was away. Curse you Anrgy Birds lol

You can't judge a PSPs storage capabilities based on what you can fit on a PS3, they are completely different. Your average downloadable PSP game is under 1GB, whereas a typical PS3 install is around 5GB.

By the way does nobody use Media Go? You can store all your PSP content on a PC and transfer easily with that.

I use Media Go. Couldn't live without it. I'm happy with my default 16GB on my Go. I can get all the games I'm currently interested in playing and then some on it. All the rest sit on my PC. I have all games backed-up on my PC actually.

The only problem I have with my Go is the game support. Still waiting for PES, Ridge Racer 2, Lumines, etc etc to get on the store.

I'm not buying the latest rumours on this. After the PSP Phone ones and now this the only impression I get is that we're nowhere near it's announcement and these will be wrong. Either way, it will have download distribution support but will primarily be physical media based. After the debacle that was PSP Go there's no way Sony will massively cut its market share just to promote online.

Another accidental announcement of the PSP2 in an interview that Industry Gamer had with the people developing the new Mortal Kombat.

Always a big thing for us is the performance. We're running at 60 fps, what can we do and do we have to build all the art assets over. We're definitely looking at them. PSP2 looks like it's a pretty powerful machine. We don't have a 3DS system in house yet, but we're looking to get one, and we'll certainly look at what its power is.

Sony are slightly screwed with the PSP2 timing at the moment. They can't announce now because the 3DS steals a bit of its thunder.

It's possible they could unveil it november if the 3DS comes out spring then release it in the summer. Otherwise they'll have to wait till feb to unveil it.

Either way, the 3DS could build up a fearsome head start

OutRun and Virtua Tennis developer Sumo Digital is working on a "bleeding edge" game for a "big hardware company", Euro…

Did anyone read that and immediately assume PSP2?

                          :edit:

Sony has handed PSP2 development kits to a number of key studios, MCV's sister site Develop has heard. - MCV/DEVELOP

                          September 2011 in the UK?

November announcement, early summer release would be my bet. All dependent on Nintendo's schedule for the 3DS.

I still think they'll keep quiet about this till next year. Any announcement isn't going to affect 3DS's success if it launches in Japan in November and will only add to the difficulties PSP1 faces this Xmas. Plus, given the hype for 3DS, they'd be much better to wait till they have a solid lineup of near final impressive titles as after the list revealed at the 3DS announcement all eyes will be out for a major showing.

The timing of the announcement should depend on whether or not they have a killer feature, the launch lineup etc. I mean if it turns out they also have 3D and also announced MGS5, a new Monster Hunter and a FFVII remake then they could launch when the hell they want.
