Christmas present games ideas please. For a child relative...

The said child has a Wii and DS. I aim to get her something 'proper' amongst the dozens of lame licenced games out there, some of which she will no doubt be getting as disposable presents anyway, and the decent games actually get played more than a couple of times.

Her favourite games are Animal Crossing (all three versions!), Super Smash Bros Brawl, err, basically all the big popular Nintendo franchises.

Wii Sports Resort was the last game I bought for her, IIRC. Something called My Sims Kingdoms too from her parents, which got about ten minutes play as it was crap. Hope that's useful information for supplying suggestions.

If you can find it how about Enchanted Folk And The School Of Wizardry for DS, from Konami.
Basically a blatant Animal Crossing rip with magic.
    Eurogamer review
Animal Crossing is Grand Theft Auto for big girls' blouses. It's for people who want to explore an open world, but one …

New Super Mario Bros Wii would be good surely?

Mario and Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story is a good one if you can find it, not alot of places selling it atm. Gotta love Nintendo and their stock shortage ideas

Does she like puzzles? A Layton game or Another Code might be an idea...

            Klonoa remake? Should be cheap.

Was going to get Mario and Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story for my girlfriend, incidentally, but she played it in a demo pod in Toys R Us and noticed it had turn-based battles, so that's stuffed. Considering how many adults dislike turn-based, it wouldn't be a good to buy for a child with much more limited patience.

New Super Mario Bros Wii is the best suggestion so far, although apparently a bit difficult. At least that can be played with adults to do the difficult bits (see: Subspace Emissary).

The game will automatically play through difficult parts of the game for you if you die too often, so it's not a problem going through it alone.

For me theses 2 games have all the things in AC plus theres a little more structure, but also can do your own thing , Rune Factory- Frontier , heres the official jist of it,
Rune Factory: Frontier incorporates an open-ended structure that allows players to choose the type of game they wish to experience. Whether it's growing crops, expanding the town, fighting (or befriending) monsters or even falling in love, the experience is unique to each player.
Or Harvest Moon: Magical Melody - Choose your plot of land from either Ocean Side, River Side or in the centre of Flower Bud village and start farming. With a wealth of animals to tend and crops to grow, Harvest Moon: Magical Melody offers gamers, young and old, hours of agricultural fun for the whole family.

Harvest Moon is where i started and loved them on the DS, i then got Animal Crossing on GC and loved that , then got Rune Factory for DS again loved , all theses games are pretty similar but a little different, id say go for Rune Factory as it has fighting or befriending monsters , kinda like SSB, or the other stuff to do.

I recently bought my little cousin a Boom Blox Party for a tenner for the Wii off the net. Rave reviews and a great party game too apparently, so... I bought it for myself also for xmas too

Rune Factory games can only be played as a boy, not a girl (except maybe RF3 but that's not out in English yet). As long as that isn't a problem, I would definitely backup MisterBubbles recommendation. There is monster fighting that has to be done to advance though.

                          What about De Blob?

Pokemon is always acceptable. It's often classed as a children's game and even though it isn't, it is easy enough to be played by children. Also you can play as a girl, so people can see that Nintendo is not sexist, making it an added bonus.

If she's just getting into gaming, and she's into Nintendo right now, then New Super Mario is surely the safest bet. It's a known quantity, and I've not met someone who dislikes a Mario game.

Of course, being such a big game, she might be getting that anyway.
