    Rock band >= Guitar Hero?

Just curious, I thought GH was the daddy of instrument games.

I got my wife last year the Guitar Hero Band for xmas and all that has came out is really just Guitar Hero greatest hits and another title (forgot name).

How comes Guiatar Hero does not bring specifc games out like Rock band?

How comes we have 2 standards of instrument analogs? Do people own 2 sets of bands! one for GH and one for Rock Band?
    Must be mad,

Why not just have 1 set of standard Instruments and then diffrent software from companies?

Basicly would Rock Band Beatles work with my wifes Guitar Hero drum and 2 guitars?

This chart should help you see which instruments work with which games:

In Rock Band Rivals, form your own band, rock the world, and live out your ultimate rock and roll fantasy, with your friends, family, or as a solo act.

This year alone they've released GH: Metallica, GH: Greatest Hits, Band Hero, GH: Van Halen AND Guitar Hero 5. There's actually a much greater quantity of Guitar Hero games released than Rock Band games.

The general concensus among people who know anything about Guitar hero and rock band beyond casual gamers views is that Rock Band is significantly better.

Although the Guitar Hero instruments have better build quality.

Since owning Rock Band and consequently upgraded to Rock Band 2 (a must of course) I dont see why anyone with a brain would go for Guitar Hero over it now. I've tried GHWT and GH5 as I had to review them and I sold them straight after.

I think the biggest difference on-going is that RB is essentially a platform with quite honestly the best DLC support this generation. The one thing GH5 did do right is make everything more accessible with better menu structure and drop in-out play... but, I still went back to Rock Band and when you have that many songs at your fingertips really the superiority in this genre is without question.

As for build quality. I actually use the GH guitars as I've had them since GH3 but the new RB guitars and especially the Beatles ones are superb. As for drums, nothing out there beats the ION kit for RB but I hear the new logitech one for GH is really good?

I struggle with the bass from Beatles Rock Band, the buttons are about 8 inches further away on it, and my arms are only short so it's really uncomfortable after a while. I mostly stick with the GH3 controller.

GH3 controller is half size. Rock Band and subsequent Guitar Hero instruments are 3/4 size and so 50% bigger. It might be worth getting yourself a spare GH3 instrument (or Aerosmith was it?) while the half size guitars are still out in the wild if the size of the RB ones is causing a problem. You can get them rather cheap brand new now

As for RB vs GH. IMO RB IS Guitar Hero 3. Same developer and it retains the feel of GH on the Guitar parts. The devs who took over Guitar Hero went down a path of finding songs that would allow as many button presses as possible during a song for "difficulty" and a few GH fans bemoaned Rock Bands "easiness" but I'd say you can only claim RB is too easy if you can gold star every track (a fair few people who complained RB was too easy didn't even realise it had a gold star ranking above 5 stars).

I think all that depended on how you look at the genre though. Some view it as merely a video game and so want insane difficulties. I view it as a musical product, and music isn't about difficulty of who can play the most notes without failing a track. It's about perfection and accuracy but more importantly, enjoying the music and I find the note patterns (and song selection) on Rock Band far more enjoyable to play along to.

I'll stop rabbiting on now but yeah... Rock Band utterly trounces all over Guitar Hero in every conceivable way IMO and is the only "band game" anyone should consider. Though I do use the GH:WT guitar to play atm until I can afford the Beatles Instruments... and maybe that full size Fender from Mad Catz (the shell is made by fender!!!)

GH:World Tour and GH5 are both awful. Mettalica one isnt bad

Rock Band is the Daddy of music games though becuase, as has already been said, its the real Guitar Hero 3.

I play lot of both Rock Band and Guitar Hero with my housemates, 3 or 4 player, and we favour Guitar Hero 5 on the basis of its convenient dropping in and out and lack of repetition in the career mode. RB2's career is so insanely repetitive, forcing you to play the same songs over and over in different configurations, while GH5 just lets you play through the songs in order. It's way more satisfying and way less time consuming.

I actually really disagree with people who say RB's note charting is much better, too. GH5 has brilliant note charts, Neversoft have really improved - Rock Band's were awful, just constant rhythm as far as the eye could see with not much fun finger work (steady). RB2's charts improved hugely over this, but I still personally prefer GH5's and think they are at the very least on par with RB2's.

Still, they're basically the exact same game repackaged at the end of the day, who cares. The instruments are all cross compatible anyway, just play both and be happy.

I agree with you on the accessibility of songs in GH5 but seriously the note charts are still pants. Even though they improved in GH5 it's clear that the devs now gear a song chart to a difficulty level instead of just letting the song be the difficulty... as such you get phantom notes thrown in just to make it harder or chords where there isnt one in the song etc...

So I still dont think GH is quite on a par with RB2 but yes it is a drastic improvement over GHWT.

We did all this a few months back:

THEY'RE THE SAME GAME, etc, etc ....

I'd also just like to point out that if the recent "Green Day Rock Band" thread in the Headlines section had been titled "Guitar Hero: Green Day", it would almost certainly contain more dissent and fanboy rage than it currently does.
