And? The list runs to 2009. 2010 isn't over.

    1999 - 2009 is a decade.

2010 is actually the end of the first decade of the 2000's.

The next decade starts on 1 January 2011.

Everyone in the world has been making this mistake.

For a minute I thought the movie list must be based on box office takings, but Almost Famous puts paid to that theory. Games list is alright, and although I'm no great fan of Halo it should probably be there just for pushing Live into the mainstream.

The game list looks rather reasonable, even if mine would be quite different. There's nothing in there that I'd feel really didn't deserve to be there.

They've chosen a game of each year, then re-arranged those in a game of the decade list. Which is, really, a pretty useless way of listing the best games of the decade. It's retarded to automatically exclude more than one game from each year.

            1999-2009 isn't a decade - you've got eleven years there, not ten.

And yes 'officially' we're still in the decade that runs from 2001 to 2010 inclusive (because there was no year zero) but most sensible people now count a decade as starting with the zero year because we group decades together the second from last digit (e.g we consider the year 2000 to be part of the noughties, not part of the nineties).

Clearly IGN think that too ,else why would they run a games of the decade list a year early? By including a game from 1999, they've cocked up (which ever way you look at a decade).

Are we talking about Counter-Strike? Wikipedia lists the retail date in 2000:

              Release date(s)
              June 12, 1999 (1999-06-12) (Mod)
              November 8, 2000 (Retail)
              March 25, 2004 (Xbox)
Don't know what "Mod" is – internet distribution?

And, strictly speaking, a decade is any ten-year period. We just happen to name sequential decades with a convenient tag: 20s, 90s, noughties (yuk), etc.

The whole decade pedantry thing is too boring for words. The same people who spout off about it are the people that no doubt spent millennium eve home alone while the rest of the world didn't worry about it and went out and had a good time.

Mod = fan modification of a game, which is massive for PC fps games, people tend to get bored of the main game and migrate to mods before too long. Counter-Strike was a fan-made mod for Half-Life, before being bought by Valve and given a standalone retail launch.

Just saying - don't see why they can't include 1999.

                            Because it's a year of the 90's.

                            2000-2009, ten years, one decade.

I personally hated Fallout 3, I feel as if I am the only person in the world who could see it was a horrible game.

Largely all decent films and games but personally, for a decade encompassing total it's off. The film list is too narrow, I mean out of the ten films 8 are Scifi/Fantasy with many of them comic boo films... it's a G33Ks list... and if Avatars in it then they need to catch up on what came out in that 10 year period.

The games list as well seems far too linear. Without even puting any thought to the thousands of titles that were released in that time period I can immediatly think of Resident Evil 4 which (given the regard it's held in) I'd wager many would place well above most of the games on that list. Still, IGN... when are they ever right?
