    Xbox Live Indie Games Feature

Thanks to Matt for the words

Great article and after some of the rubbish I've downloaded from Live, I'm glad for the guide!

As Matt ends the article, it's not yet lived up to any of its potential, hopefully with some more talanted developers and a greater presence on Live, it could in the future.

Very nice article indeed, lot of insightful comments to read with good spread of opinion.
Personally love my indie games, love the discovery of something which has a small buzz that can be made so much bigger and hearing recommendations, trying it and liking it. Some indie games take me back to PD/Shareware amiga days, some expand apon great formulas of old styles and some excel on great new ideas, on the flip side a lot fail to do any of that. There are almost 800 indie games, around 3 times more than XBLA the main advantage of XBLA though is promotion, front end dash placement and mainstream coverage in press. I would like to know how XBLA vs XBLIG sales match up? need to have a look for something. Think it's a shame people would much rather buy a MW2 avatar outfit than buy and support some indie games. Artoon was the first game I bought for Indie games terrific music and lovely style, that was just the start of it for me, it has only got better all round I feel.
Recently there has been some lovely stuff on indie games coming through it all, hopefully it will keep coming.

        good article.

asks interesting questions too, I regard myself as real target fodder for indie games, I'm a bit bored of big boxed product and have been hoovering up a large amount (25+ since xmas) of small ticket Iphone apps, but I rarely bother with indie games now, don't even look that often.

I kept downloading scruffy looking rubbish time and time again and gave up with it, just couldn't be bothered sorting the wheat from the considerable chaff, though the same problems should exist with Iphone. I can only assume the the app store delivery mechanism that highlights new releases, has an ebay/amazon style of feedback and has 'genius' recomendations works far better for me.

I know I'm barely skimming the surface on Iphone but the hit rate in terms of games I try and like is really high, whereas with indie games it was appalling low.

I stopped looking very simply because irrespective of price I didn't like what I was seeing.

I feel really stupid for asking this but have been looking for the Indiegame tab in the marketplace for a while now and have never found it. Are the indiegames a region thing? I'm in Holland playing on a jap xbox.

I'm pretty sure they're not available in Holland. If you create a UK gamertag you should be able to see and trial them then.

They're region free, you just need to have a tag with the right region to download them!

Would've liked to see mention of this in the article, I find it baffling why they are still not available here, can't think of a single reason (we never got the movie download service either but atleast with that you can make some excuses about licensing and such).

In fact I'm still wondering why there are separate dashboards at all, considering the only thing they do with them is remove content, not actually add stuff that's relevant to the region (not that I would want that tbh). But I digress...

I thought the quotes were well chosen and really interesting, but the tone of the piece was really downbeat until the very end. I don't think it did enough to big up the amazing quality of the best titles being released now and if someone was reading this who had never ventured into Indie Games before, I don't think this would convince them - which is a shame.

For me, Indie Games is now at a point where XBLA was when it first hit it's stride. It is the hidden gem in XBox Live.
