    Tumbledrop iPhone :D

    Trailer: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UHuGAZudQ3E

Way back in 2008 I released Tumbledrop for web browsers, which I mentioned here on the forums! I spent a while improving the game and making an iPhone version of the game, which is now available! I even became a finalist in IGF Mobile, I'm flying to San Francisco next month!

I used to work doing artwork for games like LostWinds and Rollercoaster Tycoon 2+3, but I went indie in 2009 and this is my first iPhone release. So far being indie is going okay, and whilst I miss having co-workers I'm really enjoying working on my own game designs.

You can also play the original PC version of the game here (browser based, but uses the Unity3D Plugin).

I would love to know what you guys think of it! I'm working on new levels and updates right now, so any feedback would be really useful.

I just tried the lite version, it seems well coded and put together but personally there seems to be quite a few games of this mechanic around and other than art style this seems quite similar to them. I've picked up when they were free Tiki Totems and some thing with cats in which are very similar, and Finger Physics whilst not identical is of a similar ilk.

wish you all the best with it though and hope you do well out of it and find some sales in the very crowded app store.

Yeah, I'm certain I missed the boat somewhat with taking so long to get this out, I actually had a lot of games copy my original browser game. Nevertheless, reception has been pretty good so far, and people seem to like the new things that my game offers such as balloons, tilting levels, and a medal system.

its a problem with the app store isn't it, as soon as something becomes popular the clones hit it in droves.

how many games are there called doodle XXXXX or doodle YYYYY, Bejwelled type games are 10 a penny too.

difficult to get across that the original idea was yours and get some sales/kudos for it.

like I said, seems well put together so hope it does well for you.

Bought this a few weeks ago and I love it About half way through the game now and I've been trying to gold star everything along the way which has proved quite addictive! I've played my fair share of these and for me it's the best game of its type by a mile, only 'Finger Physics' comes close in my opinion. Well worth £1.19

I really enjoyed Tumbledrop and am very impressed with the graphic style. I have just completed a couple of iphone projects myself and as an artist I found your artwork a lesson in simplicity . Lovely stuff !

Played the trial ages ago, think I saw it featured on PocketGamer, liked it but was left feeling "another one of these?" sadly!

              Nice looking though!

Maybe you would have more success on Android? Since i have no knowledge of this sort of thing have no idea if it would be an easy or tough job to port.

It's very very unlikely it'd have more success on android

I don't agree Iphone games that are great tend to be hidden away in with all the dross, its very much like what happened to the Playstation1 Ds and Wii the platforms have some great games but they get missed by the masses.

Android phones are selling very well and that is only set to grow when more mobile makers take up the OS.

The X10 and HTC legend are just weeks away from launch and LG and Samsung have also just released Android phones.

All these phones have access to the marketplace apart from just Iphones/Ipods

Android users don't tend to buy games. There are no TV ads for the android app store, and there isn't the recommendation culture that surrounds the iPhone. It's definitely a smaller market. It's also not available in all countries, such as Sweden.

Nevertheless, I do aim to support Android later in the year. Even if it is a smaller percentage of sales, so long as it doesn't require too much work it could be worth the investment.

just out of interest (and that i know nothing about game dev), how long did it take you to produce the game?

also, which element do you prefer - the art / graphics side, or the coding?

i tried it last night and really enjoyed it btw.

It took a while to make the iPhone version, several months at least, because the iPhone is pretty weak hardware and the game uses some pretty complex physics. I was also very keen to make sure there were no loading times within the game - it used to take a second or so to reset each level, and that was very annoying on the iPhone.

I'm definitely more of an art guy, but game design and coding are very interesting to me too. It's really satisfying to get something working well, and although I'm still learning I feel I've come a long way in the last year or so.

Glad you enjoy it! Right now it being featured by Apple because it is part of the IGF. I'm looking forward to going to San Francisco next week.
