Alice in Wonderland significantly better than FFXIII?
Calling being near identical in style to The Grudge and getting a higher score?
Half expected Sakura wars to get a lower score (supposed to be the weakest game in the series).

Yakuza for the ouch. Wonder what on earth their justification for that was? The cuts are annoying, but not nearly reason enough to mark it down, and the faults don't hurt it any more than they did the old games. And I'm surprised at Sakura Wars, too - never played 5 (though I own it <_< ) but much as I adore the franchise I'd struggle calling even #3 a good game. Experience, sure. Game, perhaps not.

God of War is nice, though. Better mark than #2, and I felt they marked #2 down, so I'm pretty confident I'm going to be bowled over.

In all fairness, ive seen nothing of FF13 that suggests to me its anything other than bland and boring. Despite its massive budget and 4 years in dev.

A certain site even use 5s for average games...
Unfortunately Edge is prohibitively expensive to get here, I'd like to read a couple of reviews, I agree with most of the scores they have given to games I've played.
