Hmm suddenly cannot connect to xbox live

Ive playing games all week online, this morning I couldn't connect, left it came back this evening still cannot connect, network test fails as XBL but passes internet connection, it suggests restarting router, did that, still nothing. Nothing has changed on my network, I am suitably perplexed.

    Halp?

Which isp are you with? And what is the exact message you finally end up at after going through all the tests it suggests?

In the box next to the test does it report that XBL is up, but you just can't connect to it? This happened to me and it was the ISPs firmware on their network box - took them a couple of weeks to fix.

If this doesn't sound like yours then perhaps you changed something and forgot?

I am with a small UK based ISP called Aquiss.

        Here's what I am getting.

"Can't connect to Xbox LIVE. Select Test Connection to troubleshoot, or try recovering your profile.

        For more info, go to

        www.xbox.com/support."

I cannot recover my profile as I cannot get a connection to XBL at all, at the Test Connection screen it passes all tests but XBL at the end, it suggests restarting my router which I have done, and checking all my ports are correct which they are, I have even chucked the 360 in the DMZ to be sure. This was working perfectly up until Friday morning, nothing has changed.

I have following error codes from the XBL Connection test.

        W: 0000 - 000B
        X: 0001 - 8005
        Y: 0C88 - 1C00
        Z: 0000 - 0000
        ID: 0006 - 0000

I have checked against codes for banning and they don't match, and there is no reason for them to have either, I was just paranoid.

I am fairly proficient with networking but this has be stumped.

Check your dns - I've got a crappy ADSL modem and the DNS dies on it occasionally. I've fixed this by giving my xbox/laptop etc my ISP's DNS servers, to take the load off the router.

My ISP is tiscali by the way. The last big outage I had was when they lost a local switch.

Prob just your ISP having issues. Had similiar thing withm mine when Hull got flooded other year (ISP is from their) and had outages with certain ranges and set websites like ebay for about 2months on and off which also affected 360.
