    Was DJ Hero ever announced?

    Comment

Oh yeah DJ hero was. That's not cancelled (officially) but it's certainly on the backburner.

The number of cancelled/indefinately postponed 3DS titles is getting pretty large at the moment.

        Crush 3D
        Assassins Creed 3D
        Saints Row 3D
All those hudson soft 3DS titles
        My Garden
        Megaman Legends 3
It may be worth putting those titles in context, rather than a simple copy and paste off of kotaku..

It's highly likely that DJ hero is dead, Activision did cancel the whole series after all.

Crush is delayed only, my garden, saints row and the hudson games were canned before the 3DS even launched so they can't have anything to do with the success (or lack of) of the console.

Anyway, I don't know what people are worried about. It's a Nintendo handheld. It may take a while to get off the ground, but it is guaranteed to be a huge success. Give it some time and it will start to pick up steam as people start to loose interest in the DS and bobs your uncle, there'll be gifs saying that it prints money all over the place.

I dunno, history has taught us that even the strongest brands in gaming can fall from grace, Nintendo are not immune from this. The market is different today, the threat from smartphones is real whether Nintendo want to acknowledge this or not. The key will be whether it is Nintendo or Sony who are able to pull through, and Sony look to be making some sensible decisions with their handheld. Nintendo have their work cut out, but it's obviously too early to be calling the 3DS dead just yet. Nintendo desperately need to revise their strategy though, get people interested in the 3DS like people became interested in the DS. Nintendo can't just rely on past successes.

It took about 18 months for developers to come to the conclusion that it wasn't worth them spending lots making Wii games. They've come to the conclusion here 3 months.

There's a bit of a chicken and egg situation developing. Publishers are getting uneasy about releasing for the console because its sales aren't too hot. Console sales aren't too hot because there aren't many games. Both the Wii and the DS had this happen but they had Wii Fit, Wii play and Brain training, Nintendogs creating insane amounts of sales.

At the moment the big system sellers will be Mario Kart and Super Mario 3D. A conservative estimate would put those 4 months away.

Nintendo have definately relied too much on the NDS general branding, assuming it will carry the 3DS to large success which is now hitting home that it isn't the case. Like has been covered many, many times on here, people love to believe that smart phones are heavily impacting the success of traditional handhelds but the fact is they're not with no impact made on sales figures at all. The blame for the 3DS's struggle so far land firmly at Nintendo's feet and despite the grunt of the PSV for its price tag it is none the less in a more difficult position than even Nintendo's facing due to the lessened popularity. The PSP's revival late on is due to a few factors that won't apply for the PSV again till late in its own life.

It highlights how much a Nintendo format relies on first party software. Not necessarily a problem in itself for Nintendo, but they haven't exactly been quick off the mark in supporting the format. As much as I love Ocarina of Time, and the 3DS port of the game, it will take more than that.

The smart phone market is overblown. Most people will probably never spend more than ?20 or so on the appstores.

For a 'dead' console, the PSP is also getting pretty close to beating the lifetime sales of the PS2.

                      PSP - CFW
DS - R4s and the like

I know loads of people that bought them for those reasons. I'm sure a 3DS r4 card would do more harm than good overall, but it would probably boost sales of the console, which would mean a bigger market to develop games for. Has anyone(a publication or economist I guess) actually ever done any research into whether the piratability of a console aids or hinders its development?

I know some people purely pirate the games, but other will only pirate certain things and will buy others, some will get bored having to fiddle about when Nintendo make it harder to run certain games and will buy those titles, and as with my brothers kids still get DS games as presents, particularly new releases, but will have an r4 with some random games on they probably wouldn't have purchased anyway (for eg my brothers own Pokemon Black, Platinum and Silver, but have Gold, White, Pearl etc on the r4).

Eh? For sales I take it you mean Japan? Overall it's only at half what the PS2 did.

The PSP has been dominating all other consoles in Japan for some time, this includes the PS3, Wii, 3DS and the DSi. I don't know what the overall sales figures are like, but the PSP has proven to be a long term success for Sony in Japan.

There's so many obvious things wrong with that post I don't know why I'm even replying to it.
