Nintendo says 3DS sales momentum in Europe and the US is currently 'weak', they'll be hoping the XL and NSMB2 perk things up before the Xmas rush

Actually, the 3DS summer lineup is looking quite nice, we have Theatrhythm and Kingdom Hearts out this month as well as NSMB2 for August. It's looking alot more favourable than the Vita's in any case.

A discussion on ZeldaDungeon.net about which of Link to the Past and Majora would be the better to be remade.

Personally, Link to the Past would be a bad choice. As a 2D title it doesn't need yet another rerelease and tarted visuals/new dungeons etc wouldn't add anything worthwhile to the game. As a 3D title it would be too much like the ones we already have. Majora has improvements that could be implemented and is probably one of the least experienced Zelda titles Nintendo have made, whilst offering a spin on the usual formula. I'd much rather it was Majora.

I would love to see a remake of LTTP, they could mirror image everything and change the order you have to get things and maybe locations in dungeons.
It is still my favourite Zelda and I started playing again recently for the first time, some 20 years later and still loving it, however, stopped in case there was a remake.

A LTTP: Master Quest would certainly get my vote.

I really have no idea which I would chose. A Majora would be best as I only have the GC version which is a mess and looks terrible now so a 3DS remake would be ideal.

I would love to see how a LttP remake would come out though.

Majora's Mask is one of only two Zelda games i haven't played. So id go for that, as ill be picking up an XL in a few weeks time.

Miyamoto wanted them both being remade, one for the 3DS and the other the Wii-U.

LTTP would be a better fit for 3DS, retaining the style but with new art

MM would be a better fit for Wii-U and Nintendo should probably chase up whoever was responsible for that fan trailer as it was quite awesome.

Hmm... unless they go for a complete redo from the ground up, I'd say Majora's Mask has much more to gain and LttP has a hell of a lot to lose. I think there's a good chance remaking the assets, whether in 2D or 3D, could rob LttP of much of its charm. While 3DS OoT showed what a layer of polish can add to the N64 era games.

So I'd definitely go for Majora's Mask over LttP.

There's no reason to remake A Link To The Past, it's pretty much perfect already. I guess it could look nice on the 3DS in 3D if you have to do something with it.
