Another vote for Lost Odyssey, it doesn't break any new ground but it's incredibly moving in places. It has masses of endgame content too. Easily my favourite rpg of this "generation".

I'm a fan of Eternal Sonata too, the plot makes no sense, but it's still a joy to play through mainly for the visuals and music. The 2nd playthrough mode (forgot what it's called) is rock hard to boot.

Yakuza 3, apart from the disgraceful cuts, is a really excellent JRPG dressed up as a modern-day Japanese mafia adventure. Oh, and it features real-time fights. But underneath all that it's probably the best JRPG on the PS3 - unless you're really into the whole FF thing, which I'm not.

It's got decent levelling, tons of side-quests, plus you can wander modern day Tokyo. If you liked P4's modern day setting, and want something a bit different and less fantasy based, this should be right up your alley.

(Yakuza 2 on PS2 is actually better, due to including stuff like Mahjong and a few other things, but you stated specifically it had to new)

Console only for me, but I'll bear it in mind, ta.

The PC version was supposed to be the basis for the canned PS3 version, so they've fixed a lot of things, rebalanced a lot of the enemies, weapons, added Japanese voices etc.

It's a SquareEnix game and it feel very much like one, and turn-based, though it's somewhat unique in that you control 'units' of people rather in individual characters.

Played Tales of Symphonia and got 90% through but never finished it because the plot literally became unintelligible. So disappointing, I nearly cried. Naturally, ToV never got a look in.

How does it compare to ToS?

Heracy! ToS is a wonderful game, and easily my favourite Tales, the plot tied together quite nicely and only has loose ties with Phantasia. I doubt you'd enjoy Vesperia if you didn't like Symphonia.

Well, I did like it - apart from the messy combat - but it was ridiculously complex in terms of story and, in the end, I gave up caring. At least I know to stay away from ToV.

There's Blue Dragon too. You may hate it. But I know some who nailed it and enjoyed it. For the most part.

I'm playing Final Fantasy XIII at the moment and loving it, but it seems to be a love or hate game so I'm not sure wether to recommend it or not.

If you want a regular JRPG then Lost Odyssey is the game to get, its a big giant love letter to fans of the PS1 Final Fantasy games really and plays just like them.

The plot, and the characters are better in my opinion. The combat isn't an awful lot different but enjoyable nonetheless.

Got the feeling it was a letdown, especially coming from Mistwalker. Played the demo, thought it felt 'empty'.

I suppose, really, I'm trying to recreate the magic of Eternal Arcadia (for all it's faults) but realise I should look for 'new' adventures. Lost Odyssey is looking good so far, but I'm still thinking of Trusty Bell or Star Ocean 4.

I just noticed you said you never played Final Fantasy VII???

Why are you even in this thread then? you should be playing it already. Its better than any current gen RPG by far.

I really want to love FFXIII just because it's shiny and new but 25 hours of **** to wade through? Eurgh. I'm starting to think VII is the one to look at. Only ever played X, and that was for a walkthrough I wrote.

                            I see a pattern emerging...

FFVI is better than FFVII in my opinion.
