I'm hoping the match-making is good enough now that'll stop pairing me against people I stand no chance of beating.

Previous one was no fun online because of that. SF4's was far better.

I'm really hoping the matchmaking is decent too. I got burned on BlazBlue pretty bad mainly due to lack of players so I was pitted against top level fighters all the time. It ended up being no fun as they were too advanced for a beginner to the game.

As i have bought marvel vs capcom 3 selling it means getting very very little as there is a better version out there.I think DLC would have been a very good idea as would have cut down on people trading the original game in.

As far as characters go its not bad and i am sure rocket racoon has its fans but there are many many more characters i would much rather have i suspect marvel picked the characters.Would have loved some more unique backgrounds to

Yup, Marvel had final say on which of their characters went in, and their choices were based more on comic fandom than fighting game fandom apparently.

Decided I'm not bothering with this one in the end, not enough new stuff in there for my liking. More interested in the SF vs Tekken game and Soul Calibur 5 now.

It's the two DLC characters from the first game, Jill and Shuma Gorath. They are compatible with both games, so if you bought them for vanilla then you don't need to buy them again.

I am pretty excited about this; SFxT is looking like a nightmare to learn (the Gem systeme is an absolute disaster IMO), and this will do me very nicely until that or whatever else comes next anyway.

Are we not getting any preorder costumes like the americans are? Haven't put my order in yet as I thought they would start to appear but the bugger is out on Friday. Guess we will have to give Capcom more money for them, excellent.

Is there a thread for UMvC3? I couldn't find it.

I had reservations about buying this since I've never gotten into the Vs series, the pace was always confusing, but the price/content ratio of this update was too good to pass up on. I don't know how you guys play this game, I was basically just mashing everything and spinning the stick, I had no idea what was going on, or why things were happening. I could do a lmhs combo in training but usually failed to follow up in the air anything more than a couple of hits and totally fell apart online.

I feel really old playing this game! Looks like it's back to SF for me, as a long time SF player, this was like going from Chopin to Death Metal!

I've bought it. Only played it for 15 minutes though. I found MvC3 to have quite a steep barrier of entry and got annoyed so I'm not sure why I bought this.

I keep reading that the timing of combos isn't strict for this, which could not be further from the truth, timing is incredibly strict and fast it's almost impossible to avoid mashing and buggering it up.

Doing Mission mode, which is an event in frustration in and of itself - when will Capcom learn to put the move commands on screen so that you don't have to keep pausing and scrolling the movelist every 5 seconds?! Come on, this should be a no brainer! Not to mention it gives you no clue about button timings (neither does SF, so I didn't expect this to really).

Pretty much every character has a standard air launch combo at about mission 4 or 5 - L,M,H,S then in the air M,M,H,S - looks simple enough, but the timing of the air combo is incredibly strict. It took me a good while to realise you have to do it IMMEDIATELY after the S launcher, as in one continuous button string - why is there nothing that tells you something as fundamental to the gameplay as this?! Even after getting this eureka moment, the speed at which you have to do it had me flumoxed, I don't know if I was mashing M once too many times or what, but it was about 1 in 20 times that I actually managed to pull of the full "standard" combo! Oh boy!

Mission mode is a nightmare, especially now that you need 480/500 for the last achievement in it. I've put together a spreadsheet with to help me track my progress with links to videos of them all being done if you want a copy of it? There was a really good 'cliff notes' guide to mission mode in MvC3 too, but so far I've not seen one for this which hopefully is just down to it being too soon.

The main trickiness with the LMHS j.MMHS combos are that the timing changes from character to character. It's worth mentioning that with some it's much easier to corner an opponent and use a neutral jump rather than a forwards one too.

What will catch you with the combo strings is that some characters are simple (lmhs, high or low) some need magic series (llmmhhs, alternating standing and crouch hits), and so on.

It's a game that at high level is basically 'mind games till you hit confirm, then land a combo'. If you drop a combo, you lose.

Lots of players love that style. I really don't.
