    iPad gaming

Surely I'm not the only nerd on here with one?

Had a quick mooch for another topic, couldn't find one, so I'll kick this off.

    Current top 3

    Geometry Wars for iPad
    Orbital HD
    Angry Birds HD

Shame I'd played no.s 2 and 3 on the iPhone, but hey, I'm sure there's more to come.
Would like to hear any of your recommendations.

    cheers

Resurrecting this thread. Only got one game so far, so hoping to get some impressions in here.

My one and only game is Drawn. It's a point & click game in the first person perspective. The game is essentially a bunch of drawn photos, all featuring a puzzle or five. I love p&c games, but this one didn't do it for me. The puzzles were sometimes insultingly easy, and other times made no sense at all. And there doesn't seem to be any real story. Looks very pretty though.

If you should get any game it's Sword and Sworcery EP.

‎Superbrothers: Sword & Sworcery EP is an exploratory action adventure with an emphasis on audiovisual style. Traverse a mythic little realm, use a sword to do battle & evoke sworcery to solve mystical musical mysteries. Experience a videogame world that is affected by moon phases & help a wandering…

iPad is probably my number 1 gaming platform now, infinity blade, rage hd, dead space, these games all have incredible graphics wayyyy beyond any other handheld device. S&S is also amazing.

How could I forget space invaders infinity gene, IMO one of the best games on any platform this generation.

I have the iPad1 and got the wife the iPad2 at launch. In terms of visuals on the iPad2 "Real Racing HD", "Dead Space" and "Infinity Blade" seem to be best. But the fact still remains for me, that a touch screen is not the best interface to play these types of games.

I recieved one of these: www.icontrolpad.com last month, and hope one day that they will do "Finger swipe to joypad" mapping, so I can enjoy these games the way they should be played.

I fully appreciate what Apple has done with IOS, we have a 3Gs, iPhone 4, the two pads and even an iMac on the OSX side, but for TRADITIONAL GAMING I just hate the touch screen.

So my ipad is not my #1 gaming platform, but is my #1 email/web/IMDB platform.

I play a bit on mine, mainly cos I'm lazy and it's on the coffee table, capcom arcade is alright (now with final fight), pc engine app thingy, the cave games, splatterhouse, r- type, ridge racer, all recommended for a quick blast.

I have a load of games on mine but the only one I ever really play in Pool Bar Online. The multi player with voice chat is good and it's well suited to touch screen play. Other than that I use mine for surfing and streaming films in bed

I know man, someone should strike me down, iPad and PC FPS games, I don't know what i'm doing.

@capcom_suicide, I feel ya re: the controls, tho in those examples I picked out I don't feel they detract from my enjoyment of those games, especially Infinity Blade, surely it could only be done on this platform, unless move/kinect/Wii?

I agree with pretty much all this. But while I find the iPads input method unsuitable for most console games, it seems super for point & click games. Too bad I've played pretty much all the available p&c games on the pc already. Wanted to try out Back to the Future, but I heard it's played with a virtual joystick. Seems like a wasted chance.

But when developers nail the controls on an iPad game it's a great device for gaming. Also having the device so close to your person seems to add to the immersion. Something like Sword and Sworcery EP is a brilliant experience with headphones on and the iPad on your lap.
Also some games seem to fit better on the iPad than elsewhere. World of Goo is a perfect example as is the ever popular Angry Birds. Even something like Bejewelled which started off with a mouse driven interface feels more natural with a touch interface.
I think the lack of a pointer on screen removes another layer of abstraction and gets you feeling that you are more directly involved.
My top iPad games at present are:

Espgaluda 2 - Cave utterly nailed the controls with this and the iPhone specific modes are great for high score chasing.
Superbrothers: Sword and Sworcery EP - wonderful use of sound and stylish visuals with good controls.
Arkanoid - I would argue that this version is probably the best Arkanoid game period. Controls are spot on.

I would also recommend Infinity Blade, Geometry Wars, Radiant HD, Dodonpachi Resurrection, Drop 7, Angry Birds and Moonlight Mahjong.

I can recommend "forget-me-not" on the IPad. It's a brilliant retro pacman type shooter, incredibly addictive and great value.

World of Goo is a perfect example of a game that is best played on Ipad, the touch controls are perfectly suited to he game.

I tned to only play games that are suited to the machine. Some games are too fussy and really should be played with a joypad. The Cave shoooters are brilliant on iphone and even better on Ipad.

                            Couple of strong releases today.

Final Fantasy III, looks good but with a typical Squeenix price tag.

                            And NBA Jam.
