Hugely impressed by the trailer. Looks slightly early days - models and animations are a little rough - but I'd still play the game if it was basically Killzone 2.1, so anything on top of that is fine by me.

I went back to a hard playthrough of KZ2 and the gameplay remains as fantastic as I remembered it. So nice to have it confirmed I'm not just talking the thing up for no reason.

Well our binocular vision loses the 3D affect at about 200metres, so anything in the game beyond that distance wouldn't need to be rendered from 2 different views.

That looked gorgeous. And of all the things to happen, my flipping Virgin cap kicked in a little bit before it so it went all blocky

And apparently that was the pre-alpha version, too? Granted, it's building upon KZ2 so a pre-alpha is most likely quite a bit further on than I'd have thought.

Looking forward to playing it in 2D. Without move. HARDCORPS!

They could have stopped the conference after that footage as far as I'm concerned. Even the jetpack stuff looked awesome, and things like that so often look cumbersome or disorienting.

All the polish in KZ2 came from the last few months, so looking this good already is a good sign

Jet pack was wicked. Especially the different coloured flares and just the way it seemed to translate the feeling of being strapped inside a big metal... jet pack, all clunky and stuff. Definitely going to give KZ2 another go after watching all this. I'm going to force myself to like it until I actually start to like it, then I'll be able to just enjoy it. That's the plan.

There was quite a few issues in what they showed today but nothing that isn't expected at this stage really.

Very impressed with what I saw though but I suppose people were expecting a lot after the second game. I'm not sure if the sigh when people saw it in 3D was a good or bad sigh.

I'll post this in the Crysis thread as well, but as we were discussing 3D rendering and the impact, Yerli has said Crysis 2 does it in such a way to only take a 0.4fps hit!

Please remember the guy is insane and talks a load of ****, but this is fascinating. In other news, he's saying C2 looks better than KZ3 in 3D despite not seeing KZ3 himself, and despite what I'd heard other commentators say who have seen both.

His explanation is awesome. It's like a parent explaining a complex thing to a child.

I like his mentioning of the 360. In all this kerfuffle, I haven't seen anyone discussing 3D on the 360, it's all been PS3 and PC. Seeing as the same thing happened with the PS3 and 1080p, colour me interested (in the results, that is, not in buying into 3D. Not for a while yet, anyway)

Wouldn't the 360's firmware have to at least be updated to allow 3D output? I have no idea how 3D is sent. I know it's meant to be HDMI 1.4 but the PS3 is on 1.3 and getting by after the update.

I just found this, which shows two gents playing a 3D game on the 360.

From what I can see, HDMI 1.4 lets you do 1080p 3D, and clearly none of these games (e.g. KZ3, GT5) will be 1080p AND 3D without looking like a step backwards, and maybe there's some extra handshaking and technologies to do with 3D, but I'd have thought that, for gaming at least, simply sending the TV 60 frames a second that differ slightly every other frame to get the 3D effect that is then recreated by the shuttered glasses would be enough, but I haven't researched this yet.

I've been quickly Googling HDMI 1.4 to see what the specs are but there may well be some important feature that HDMI 1.4 has that the 360 may not be able to provide without a hardware update if the 360 can't also be updated to support it like the PS3 can. From what I've read, the PS3 won't be able to fully support HDMI 1.4 with just a firmware update anyway, but I suppose that's not the point if it can add enough of the important features without needing a hardware update, such as 3D, which is probably the main selling point.

The 3D part of the HDMI standard dictates that it must be capable of outputting 120 1080p frames per second to reduce flicker. But as not many games will be outputting 1080p at 120fps I suppose they will just go at 60fos which the 360 is able to
                                Do
