Game of the Year 2010...

End of this month we will be 6 months into the year, so what can you stick your head on the block and state has been your GOTY's so far? I just wanted to do a 6 month check so we can revive this thread end of the year for the final GOTY's, there is always a LOT to play from September onward but though this would be a good time to reflect the games played over the past 5-6 months.

For me the long wait for Heavy Rain and Alan Wake has put them to the front of my contenders and the fact that they were very good games is another, really high production values and both very different games but they were trying to bring back more of the storytelling aspect into games. Also will pop Battlefield Bad Company 2 in there for just pushing the online side of multiplayer making it great, solid fun for team play.

Would say this thread is just meant for a bit of reflection as the summer period can be a slow one, predictions can also be put in here if you think something will blow your face off later in the year.
Be cool just to read what people have been impressed with so far and if they will hold up for the end of the year GOTYs.

Presently Mass Effect 2 or No More Heroes 2 but I fully expect them to be blown away by Galaxy 2 when it comes out.

Apparently I'm into games with a "2" in them...

If possible I'm even more worse of for money than I was last year and haven't been able to sample a wide variety of new games this year. So far Mass Effect 2 is my number one game of the year but I have every expectation that Civ V will have the number one slot by the end of the year. The only thing that can stop it is Mario.

Hope to have played Red Dead, Bioshock 2, Heavy Rain and Alan Wake by the end of the year and have high expectations from all of them (except Alan Wake where five years ago I had high expectations, but not any more) but doubt they could threaten the no. 1 spot.

Super Mario Galaxy 2 will get most peoples vote on here I think, even if it is more of the same with new power ups. That being said, I haven't played it yet. Who knows, I could end up being one of those people who love it.

Right now my vote would go to Heavy Rain, closely followed by Mass Effect 2. Oh and Red Dead Redemption would be up there too.

SMG2 assaulted the first place and entrenched itself on it, it will be hard to flush it away.
BlazBlue Continuum Shift will probably take the second place and last will either be EspGaluda II or Monster Hunter Tri. If released within the year, Etrian Odyssey III is an other contender.

Of what I've played so far, it'll be between God of War III and Modnation Racers. I expect RDR to be up there as well, but I haven't played nearly enough of that yet.

So far my vote goes to God Of War 3 also, Battlefield 2 has also been a stunner too for the multiplayer. Just started Red Dead and Alan Wake but both are promising.

I'll give a Top 3 and a notable mention as that's usually how it goes at years end. Though like many, I expect Mario Galaxy 2 to plough its way to the top soon.

easy so far, Modnation Racers as its just brilliant, deep subtle SNES mario kart like zen control system and adds balanced weapons and great designer tools to the whole mix, best kart racer ever and one of the best racing packages.

Just Cause 2 was also brilliant, had flaws but was just totally OTT and has set the bar very high and I suspect worried the Crackdown 2 team a bit.

Of what I've played so far, it'll be between God of War III and Modnation Racers.

They'd be my two picks right now, with Bad Company 2 as Best Multiplayer. Those are the 3 games I've had the most fun with this year, so far. But then I've not played many titles this year

I'd add Borderlands as I only started that around the New Year, but that was released last year.

My backlog of games is huuuuge as i have been finishing up in Demons Souls (which i would vote for if the UK release is a contender), M&L Bowsers inside story, Football Manager 2010, Just Cause 2, and a few others which i have tried to fit in when time allows.

But on the shelf i have:

RDR (which i have just started)
SMG2
GoW3

Christ almighty, that is a stellar list of games to play and all released in the last couple of months or so and I expect them all to be good to excellent so my top 3 will undoubtably come from these unless the following are released and are just as good:

Dead Rising 2
Crackdown 2
Halo Reach
Brink
Crysis 2
