Hard Corps: Uprising (XBLA/PSN) Contra HD Goodness

This is SO weird, whilst cleaning my MD games and dusting the games room I decided to sit down and (try to) play Probotector, as I was playing I thought it's a shame we haven't seen a new shiny HD Contra on current formats after the PS2 versions.
Then lo and behold, Konami/Arc System Works had already announce Hard Corps: Uprising, due for Winter 2010 XBLA and PSN.
I come online and see this...

    Heaven, died, gone to.

IGN reported, lots of details about it with a showing at E3.

Let's see if Konami can bring out a true successor to the Contra/Probotector series, the only sure thing right now is that ArcSys is doing a great work with the sprites.

This is brilliant news, I want more stuff like this. I wish they would release some of these things as actual retail games though, and not just as downloads. (I like my boxes............)

Looks a bit 'bright' and colourful to me.

I personally enjoyed the dark and gritty look of the Contra games. Still, we'll see how it shapes up, although I doubt it will be anywhere near as good as Contra Spirits.

Looks very good, Contra's needed a HD reboot for some time now.

Looks very nice. Hoping they make it challenging but don't go overboard on making it ultra punishing.

Hard Corps on the MD was my fave. Much more action oriented than the SNES game, and also not those top view levels.

I like this style myself. This is how Sparkster had to be imo.

Excellent news, it looks spectacular. Surprised Ark Systems are doing it though, don't think they've done anything like this before.

Haven't played a Contra since part 4 on the DS which was probably the best one since 3. Never did play Hard Corps or Contra Rebirth though.

                    Few questions:
Who developed Rebirth, the PS2 Contra's, and MD Hard Corps?
Was it Treasure that did Contra 3?
What's happened to the western developers behind Contra 4?

I hated Contra 4 myself the difficulty was unforgiving. Much preferred Shattered Soldier on the ps2. I'm liking the looks of this though.

Contra Rebirth was developed by M2. The PS2 Contras were Konami (KCET| and KTYO). MD Hard Corps was also Konami developed.
Sure that most of the talent that worked on Contra 3, later became Treasure.
Contra 4 was developed by Way Forward who are doind Wii/DSi ware/retail games, the next one due was Shantae for DSi ware.

That Shantae looks good, shame it's DSi ware only though. I'm quite impressed with Wayforward, hope they'll get more opportunities with classic 2d games.

Wayforward are amazing. They also have a 2D Batman game in the works for the Wii:
