Retro City Rampage (Formally Grand Theftendo) Wiiware

Remember following this years ago when it was being developed for the NES, it was basically a NES remake of the Portland area of GTA3, it seemed to be coming along quite nicely but then the Website dissapeared and nothings been heard since.

Until now, it's been reworked as Retro City Rampage and is coming to Wiiware this Autumn.

Glad to see this alive again. Would have preferred to able to play it as an actual NES cartridge, but WiiWare is better than nothing.

Interesting idea, although I personally found the constant self-congratulations on references rather tiresome.

Has just been YOINKED by MS due Summer 2011 (no doubt for Summer of Arcade 2011)
What this means is WiiWare version has been delayed til Winter 2011.

I'm really looking forward to this.

Is it still due out on Live Arcade this month (February 2012)?

Retro City Rampage is coming to Vita and PlayStation 3, designer Brian Provinciano has announced.

Brian Provinciano has announced PS3 and Vita versions are coming too. The RCR website has been updated with a May release date.

I really, really, really hope the PS3 and Vita versions support cross platform play.

                      I think so.

I also like that, as an indie developer, Brian Provinciano comes across as so much more humble and a nice guy, compared to retro-styled indie dev Phil Fish.

I bring this up because, having followed both their twitters and because they're both working on similar styled projects, it astounds me that people like Fish continue to be accepted by people, despite behaving like a cock, and even goes on to win $30,000 at the IGF, despite being one of the most unpleasant and reprehensible people I've seen on the internet.

In a way it makes me like RCR more, because Provinciano shows you don't have to be a jerk to get a project done (and it looks like he's actually going to get it done, unlike Fez).

I think Provinciano should beat Fish up at the next convention they both attend.

Well, to give credit where it is due, RCR has been in development for ten years, which is still a good bit longer than Fez.

Phil Fish is still an arse, though.

Is there a release date for this yet? The website says coming soon and Wikipedia says "2012".

I quite like the look of this!

There were hints about it coming the end of May. Last interview I saw said it was finished and undergoing ratings procedure. Now it seems like he's adding more to it.

Who knows! Not even the author, I'd wager.
